There is NO reason to make rust a deciding factor. There are so many corrosion, rust inhibitors on the market that preventing rust is pretty much a no-brainer these days. You WILL have to re-apply it regularly though. The threads on a coil over could be greased with numerous greases that wouldn't wash off for a very, very long time in any climate so as to prevent rust. That is just one example. Collectors Oil made by Break Free for guns will prevent rust and corrosion. I had that stuff on a lever action that got sopping wet and sat that way for a week. No rust. That is just an example since a suspension system gets blasted with water, dirt, salt and dust regularly but I wouldn't doubt even something like Collector's Oil would work for a while on a shock. Googling rust preventatives, industrial rust preventatives, corrosion prevention will net you numerous companies that make various products for this purpose.

I have seen many pitted and rusted collars on Coilovers from our lovely New England weather. So I went with something that was set it and forget it you could say.

Thank you. The rear is a .5" single leaf custom AAL. Ride is good but like all others, better when the cap is on the truck or it's loaded up with stuff. I noticed the 'harshness' of the ride as soon as I took the cap off for the winter. I say harshness but it's really not that bad, no worse then stock. I still get sag when I'm loaded with cap, camping gear for four, bike rack and four mountain bikes on the hitch. It's sits level with the cap on or off the truck. I will either be doing the chevy spring setup in the spring or going with a complete leaf pack. Not sure which one though. This thing is a mall crawler and I'm not sure which pack will suit my needs best. I want a pack that won't sag when I'm loaded up but won't be super harsh when I am not. Is there a perfect medium? I don't know.

ya i always have a cap on, i plan on running 265s with 6112 and want slight rack but want it to ride nice on the highway, im a "mall crawler" too just might go with 1.5" -2" aal, just wanna buy once cry once from your experence maybe the aal is all i need! never have more then 3 surfboards and light gear in the back

I almost went 6112's but figured all that extra money for an oversized 5100 wasn't really worth it. So decided on the 887/5100 combo. And the ride is awesome
