hello ladies and gents. Sorry if this specific question has been addressed before.

How do you know which spring rates, which shocks, etc would I choose to most closely mimic the way a raptor rides?

I hope that makes sense on what I’m looking for. I gather I would want king or Fox shocks but I’m under the impression there is a lot of different ways those come?

Thank you. Based on one of the sticky posts, the Long Travel (Which I know a raptor has) on our trucks is a major major change? Saw they talk about bed cages and things like that which is way beyond where the raptor goes.

    Is there a middle ground?

Buy a bigger truck that can fit big shocks without cutting? But at that point buy the raptor. Random raptor row next to my work last week. So many lights!

Ah ok. 50-70k is a bit beyond my price range.

Another approach. If one were to get king shocks or icon or fox or falcon would the ride improve on road and soak up the ride more like the raptors do?

I figure the road ride quality on the raptor has to be more the shocks than the LT parts but I could be wrong.

I've got bilstein and toytech all around and my 18 rides better than it did.... Still rides terrible.

Ride better yes. You won't be doing any high speed raptor runs without serious mods though. Since that's what the Raptors were designed for when you say ride like one I assume you want to blast deserts at highway speeds

Well I’d love too. But the raptors ride amazing on the street. My off-roading if I’m honest is construction sites and the mud and such involved with that
But other than that roads and bad roads are most common. And wanting to plan for when I replace the shocks not to do it twice. And don’t mind spending a little extra but converting to a 10k long travel is out. Or your right buy a different vehicle.

You won't be able to catch the Raptor short of long travel which is lots of coin and has significant drawbacks for a daily driven vehicle. The coolest part about the Raptor in my opinion is the mix between a long travel desert truck and a daily driver. That is very hard to do. You can mimic the Raptor build on a Tacoma but it won't match it. That's okay though...a baby Raptor is still pretty badass and half the price.

Is the Raptor ride on the street that much better than a standard F-150? I've only ever ridden in Raptors in the last several years, so not able to compare. Seems the bigger trucks just have better ride than our mid-sized. Unless of course it's an unloaded 1-ton.

I agree. My 17 Silverado rode like a dream compared to my Tacoma before and after my suspension upgrade. I have about a mile mildly graveled dirt road both ways on my commute... The Tacoma with the Bilstien Toytech combo actually rides really well at 60mph on it. I'm not jumping anything but it takes the uneven dirt pretty well.

I have Kings on mine (not LT) and it feels like I am in a lazy boy. Mobbing the 9000 speed bumps at the local grocery store is so damn fun.

Only downside is that since I put heavy dakars in mine to lift the tail, when I go over speed bumps now the front is cushy and the tail is pretty stiff unless I have a bunch of weight in the back...which I knew would be the case. But when I'm loaded down #ExpoAF, I can haul ass on the Utah side/backcountry roads

In my opinion yes. The ride is way better in raptor than an fx4

Yes exactly. I want the mix of daily driveable and awesome street ride. Yet not lose my off-road capability and it to still look cool.

Same, I want to floor it going to the grocery store. Front end is super cushy, rear of the truck is the equivalent of entering earths atmosphere....

Do Kings or Fox front and rear on AT 265s and whatever wheels you like. Level the front with 1" lift from the adjustable coilovers and leave back stock height. Is how I built mine. Still dailies incredibly well and I can bomb dirt roads like they're pavement.

I do want to switch to 33" tires and I'm thinking the 255/85r16's but might do the 285's if I decide to get wheels.. I currently have the readylift 2"/1" kit and I guess that needs to come off if I get Kings or Fox? what type of rear springs would I need to get a little extra lift that wont beat me to death, sounds like the OME heavy duty will worsen the ride. are those teh same as the Dakars?

Yeah remove the readylift if you go Kings/Fox. If you want the rear to be soft go with some deaver full replacements. They will sag a lot if you tow or load up the rear with gear but they'll be the softest. Dakars and what not are going to be stiff but they support a lot of weight...is a price you have to pay if you want to haul a bunch of stuff around.

Why is LT associated to a Raptor and the way it rides?

A raptor is not LT it uses a simple 2.5 strut with a coil spring and a gimmicky remote rear shock. The Raptor is NOT designed for high speed offroad driving, in fact its not really designed for anything more than the Pro or ZR2. they designed it to be a street truck with very little offroad use and use it as a marketing gimmick to sell premium priced parts.

The Raptor shocks wouldn't even be able to keep up with some OEM King 2.5s on our Taco. In fact you can find plenty of Raptor forums that talk about installing a LT kit because stock is not LT

I have no idea how a raptor "rides" as that is very subjective but there ar eplenty of after market suspension products with different capabilities, valving, etc.

I can say however that the King 2.5 shocks ride similarly to the stock OR shocks

Not true. The Raptor is long travel with respect to a standard F150. Upper and lower control arms are completely replaced and it has a wider track. Has some 13" of travel in the front and 13.9" out back. Standard F150 isn't even close to that. Difference between an F150 and Raptor is very similar to the difference between a stock Tacoma and an LT Tacoma at least on the front end.
