Im looking at shocks, I see alot of you suggesting the adjustable 5100, I will most likely get this for the front, but my question is what should I get for the rear, and how do I know if I need new coil overs or leafs, and I don't want lift, I just want stock height and if I get adjustable I will probably set it at 1.25 for leveled, but once again biggest question is what do I run for the rear. Thanks for the help and if needed it is a 00 3.4 2wd xtracab

for 2wd just get regular shocks, they work better for street use, if you off road then get the bilseins, they have softer dampening to put up with more abuse from going off road.

how you use the truck is the deciding factor but off road 4wd shocks are not as good for street use and vice versa street shocks are not as good for off road use

if you do the occassional off road then get the bilstein 4600's is all you need, if you do a lot of off road then get the bilstein 5100's

if you don't off road and need mainly street use shocks then I suggest a good set of Gabriel max control shocks, they are very much just like the bilsteins but are designed for street use not off road so they have different dampening

Thanks for that, i think the 4600 would be better after reading that, can I pair the 4600 fronts with 4600 rears at stock ride height?

5100's will also give you a smoother ride. If you're doing 5100's up front I say get rears too. They're pretty cheap. I can't imagine you'd save much money doing 4600's.

You need new springs if your springs are broken or sagging or if you want lift, it is the best way to lift.

im no shock expert but the 5100 and the 4600 are just different types of dampening. I think the 5100 are adjustable where the 4600 are not but I cant say for certain so yes a matching set should be available and to my understanding the shocks don't determine height, they just dampen movement so all you are doing is selecting shocks that have the correct travel length so they don't bottom out when the suspension moves

just got a simple lift on her
just to clarify, for the rear, you dont need coilovers. just normal shocks.
you have leaf springs in the rear.

    Good advice from keakar

You don't get any lift in the rear from the shocks. So pick whatever shock you want back there. If you aren't going to lift at all or go offroad I might even suggest just leaving the stock shocks in the back. Instead of 4600's in the rear you could buy someone's TRD Sport or Offroad take offs. They are basically the same thing and that would save you some money.

I have Trd bilsteins, and I want to get the 5100 up front for sure being only 200 for a pair, and I get that adjustablilty because I want it leveled, no lift though, when I look at 5100 rears on toytec, it tells me that even the standard length 5100 can't be run with zero lift in the rear, which rears should I be looking for , thanks in advanced

Weird. Sorry I just noticed that. I swear I've seen a few 1st gens running around with no lift and 5100's.

In that case you may have to go with the 4600's.

You could also go with FOX 2.0 rear shocks, but those would be overkill for your situation. Still at about $60 more overall cost for fox in the rear that's not a bad price for a rebuildable shock.
