New bearings and hardware will fix it. I seriously doubt that there's ever been a squeak from a brand new assembly.

These things will perform well and will be quiet for a long time when properly serviced. Both the uni's and the bushings have service requirements. Get the CORRECT service info from TC, maintain them and you'll get a lot more miles from them. There's a right way and then there's the guessing way. Do it the right way and your uppers will thank you

So I finally pulled the trigger and bought new uniballs and got them installed and it has fixed my problem. Haven't heard a squeak since which is amazing, definitely worth the price.

Maybe you have a problem with the stock uca...? Haven't heard about them being as squeaky but I couldn't be sure.

    Update on the squeak:

I've determined that my squeak comes from the uni-balls exclusively; not the bushings.

If I use a degreaser, then pressure wash them, I can stop the noise for a while. When it comes back, I use a little oil and it goes away until I can wash them again.

I have ~44k miles on them and there is some play; they need to be rebuilt. I think they started squeaking around ~30k.

I off-road quite often, I live on a dirt road, and it gets -40F during the winters; they definitely operate in harsh conditions.

I expect that I've hit the service life on them, and should be prepared to rebuild them every 40k miles or so.

    Recommendations for improvement:
    1. Neoprene uni-ball cover to keep dirt/dust/mud out.

    2. A cap like the Icon UCA's.

Preventing contamination would most likely extend the service life, but I doubt they would last too much longer.

Alright, reviving this old thread ... but its ok, cause its my thread, right?!

So as you can see ^ I had squeaky uniballs, got to the point where hitting them with dry lube only bought me like 5 min of squeak free driving. Bit the bullet, bought replacement uniballs and that fixed the problem ... for a year and a half. Now they just started squeaking again. Ive tried cleaning them really thoroughly (pressure washer) and drying them with compressed air, and the dry lube. everything seems to just give short term relief.

Seems absolutely stupid to buy new uniballs again for this. Im out of ideas guys.

Did you buy them a 2nd time?

I'm at the point of needing to do it for a first time. Sounds like a wind chime put up to a megaphone while I'm going down any road surface now. Dry PTFE lube lasts about an hour. Wish I would have bought the ICONs with the dust covers originally.

Did you ever do this? I’ve got some horrendous squeak in my suspension that I’m pretty sure is the uniball. After only 2 years and 70000 miles mine are doing the same thing. $200 for replacement uniballs seems absurd. Seriously considering a new suspension setup. :annoyed:

I just got SPC’s and will never ever get a UCA with uniballs again. I got new bushings and uniballs once and the racket came back. It was soooo bad towards the end that anyone walking down the street would crank their necks to see what was going on, haha.

I know I'm reviving a 4 year old dead thread, but this just came in handy in my search for ungodly squeaky UCA. I bought the AllPro UCA for my 1st gen and installed about a year ago. They were so stiff that the suspension would compress while driving, but not uncompress, which looked ridiculous. I reached out to AllPro and they basically brushed it off. I ended up pulling them out, but reinstalled them with my tdi swap, and they are still terrible. I decided I was just going to drive with them and see if they loosened up. After being in for about 1000mi, they are still very stiff and super squeaky, even after liberally applying Tri-Flow. The steering is extra heavy and won't self-center either. Starting to pull my hair out and considering going back to stock arms.

I might be an outlier, but I would avoid uniball UCA in the future because of this experience.
