The fox shocks over heating surprises me. Accutune mentions fox having better oil for high rated temps. https://accutuneoffroad.com/fox-vs-king-oem-coilovers/

I've got some good tires I think. Pathfinder all terrains have served me well so far. Im not cool enough to have any sort of adjusting my tire pressure on the trail tho, so I run them at 32-33 psi on the reg. Ive seen some portable pumps that might be able to solve that tho

I'm with you here, I want to be far far away. At the very least have a decent set up to help survive any sort of apocalyptic event. Lol

I was planning on adding suspension then the bumpers later. All of it is going to take time because none of it is cheap. Hopefully I make some more connections in the next few years to help me fab the bumpers myself. But thats besides the point

I definitely will! Thanks for the info. Just knowing how suspension works is helpful for my decision making process anyways.

This is primarily what swayed me to Fox. I went with this kit: https://accutuneoffroad.com/product...on-kit-stage-4a-fox-performance-elite-series/

My rig is a major porker with front & rear steel bumpers, winch, Diamondback, Sherpa rack, RCI full steel skid package, etc. When I'm running the rear swingout with two full jerry cans & spare tire, I'm 1,200 lbs over stock weight. I had no choice but to upgrade suspension and went with a top quality (albeit expensive) kit. I like the adjustability as I run it soft as possible on the pavement, and firm up when I'm out in the desert. Accutune tuned the valving according to my weight.

Pics when everything was nice new & clean...

because it’s so sick! My buddy runs those Fox 2.5 dual adjusters and he went to make a turn and the bearings popped out and the dial completely came off. He’s sending everything into Fox under warranty. Ymmv

yeah ok…I enjoy going around forums and lying about truck parts. I wasn’t making a judgment one way or the other, so maybe switch to decaf before you have an aneurysm.

Trucks are designed to carry the MOST EXPECTED normal load at the designed ride heights and handling capabilities, which in the case of our Tacoma is "nothing", Nada, Zilch. (even though, depending on the model, they are RATED to carry between about 950 and 1200 lbs--this means our brakes etc. can accommodate these larger loads). So when you are constantly carrying load, your springs sag and you tend to sway too much going around corners. SO he is trying to resolve these issues. EASY Answer.

Couple things to add to the conversation here:

None of us are experts; Some here typically want to bash what somebody else has, bc they need to justify spending what they spent for their setups.

That being said, something of value no one has mentioned; When you get into the high end market like Fox vs Kings, you're getting an extremely similar product, and the majority around here wouldn't know the differences. If you had a very precise setup you needed, you'd be better off going with something custom tuned to your needs, and neither off the shelf product would be the best in that case, but from the sounds of it, you just want something to account for some added weight, so either would be more than enough. If you can't find a good enough reason to pick Fox vs Kings, the most important thing to me would be picking the product that can be rebuilt by a shop somewhere local to me. Its something a lot of people don't take into consideration, and rebuilds will inevitably have to take place at some point if you want to retain the same quality of product you're paying for.

All of that being said, you don't get your added weight capacity from shocks. You'll want to make an informed decision on spring weight for the front coilovers to handle the weight, as well as leaf spring choice. That's going to really determine your ride quality.

Its easy to recommend the most expensive solution, but if your budget doesn't allow, it just doesn't allow. Some of us realize this, and find cheaper alternatives, without sacrificing too much ride quality. At the end of the day, the OME kit you linked would most likely do exactly what you want it to do.

Excellent points. I'll reiterate this: "You'll want to make an informed decision on spring weight for the front coilovers to handle the weight" Given how heavy my ride is, I was positive I would need 700 or at least 650lb springs. When I consulted with Accutune, they were adamant about getting 600lb springs. Didn't make sense to me as everything I read on here suggested heavier springs for additional weight. Obviously they know their stuff and I went with their recommendation and the Eibach 600lb springs work perfectly in conjunction with their custom valved shocks. If I had gone with heavier springs, it would have been a much rougher ride.

I suspect you have too much faith in aftermarket marketing and the posts on these forums.

In any case, the OP only said he was carrying extra weight and did not describe any performance issues or other goals. Thus I asked him to clarify.

People on this forum are prone to recommending all sorts of money to be spent without knowing what the poster’s issues and goals are.
