    Hi Everybody,

I spent hours researching threads on this and have learned a lot, but I just have some clarifying questions I'm hoping you guys can answer.

I have a 2010 AC base model with 125,000 miles and am riding on my original suspension. My truck is currently getting a frame replacement and I have been given the green light by the dealership to provide any parts I want swapped out at reduced or no labor charge. I have spent a lot of time reading the frame threads as well so I don't need any information on the frame swap, just on choosing a new suspension. I'd like to upgrade, but I've read so much information I'm actually getting a little confused.

I'm not really looking to add a lift or increase my ride height, and I frequently tow a boat throughout the year.

From what I've read it seems like the most common upgrades are Bilstein 5100's, Bilstein 4600's and 3rd gen swap. I see a lot of people using Bilstein 5100's but most of them are also looking to increase ride height. If this is not my goal, are the 5100's unnecessary? I've also read a lot of threads on the 3rd gen swap, but most of these also have a goal of increased ride height. If I'm just looking for a more comfortable ride and better towing what would my best bet be?

    Thank you all,

    Justin

5100s are literally height adjustable 4600HDs.

    see below

this is correct. the stock blue and yellow bilstien shocks on trd OR's are way smaller in diameter vis the 5100/4600's

So it sounds like if I'm not looking to adjust height, 4600HDs would be the way to go?

Thanks for correcting me! I thought there was a general bilstein shock that was close to the stock offerings. Is there one?

Not sure, but here’s a comparison of a 4600 (top) and OEM (bottom) for first gen Tacoma.
