Hi there. I have a 1999 Tacoma 2.4L . I recently had 31 inch tires and about a 2 inch lift added to my truck, which I found out makes the ride really stiff . Any suggestions to a softer suspension kits? Thinking about converting it into a 4wd in the future so just food for thought . Thanks

    Hey welcome to Tacoma World!!

Do you have a 6 lug Pre-runner? I thought 31s were stock size on pre runner, but maybe I'm wrong... What kinda lift is it? There's spacers, shocks, coils, they can all give you a lift, with each affecting your ride quality in a different way.

Hi. It's the base model Tacoma 5 lug. And I'm almost positive it's 2 inch lift with the shocks to clear the bigger tires. My mother did it and gave it to me later on .

Pics of lift? You can always try different shocks. But 31” on a 2” lift for a 5lug must rub alot. I wonder if the suspension is super limited to prevent rubbing.

Doestech makes a lift kit using coils and od spindles that ride pretty nice

Area51 posted a great thread for you to read.

On a side note, you'll find that the work required to convert a 5lug base model into a 6lug 4wd will far exceed your abilities and/or wallet.

I missed that part. Yep, agreed. I imagine it would require quite a bit of coin to take it to 4wd. Enjoy the truck you have Jake - easy to get sucked into that whole money pit called Tacoma world.

Can always look at a 4wd next time.

Thanks, everyone for all your input and help. It is greatly appreciated! I did not know that I needed to be a 6lug in order to convert into a 4WD. Good to know. Then if its to much to convert into a 4WD, any advice to turn the truck in a prerunner? Suspension and a regear are my biggest goals right now for the truck. I would like the truck to be as soft as possible.

Go read though the link posted above. I have everything for a 5lug listed in there and you can compare it all
