My buddies and I got drunk last night and with a conversation that started with them trying to say Camaro SS could walk a Mustang Super Snake (with enough money into it) diverted into the SVT Lightning VS. the SVT Raptor in a strait drag race. I'm arguing in favor of the Lightning due to the fact that no street built truck can touch it (off the show room floor) and that they've been reliable machines for years now.

    The comparison

    2004 SVT Lightning
    [IMG]
    5.4L Triton V8
    380hp/450ft-lbs torque
    Eaton Super Charger
    3.73 9.5'' rear end
Modified 4R100 4-speed automatic transmission with OD lockout
0-60 5.2 seconds (car and driver)

    2011 SVT Raptor
    [IMG]
    6.2L V8 N/A
411hp (took the lowest number I could find as a bhp reading)

Due to time constraints I could not be as thorough as I would have liked to be for the comparison. Yes, we did argue the "one is a street truck, the other is built for off road abuse" topic. Still, my buds want to say that the Raptor can spank a Lightning. What's you weigh in on thIS TW? Removing off road from the comparison which one would you like? Bonus question and argument. Given $10,000 bucks to mod each truck which do you think will still come out on top?

I'll give it to the Raptor in the respect of more power/modern technology. I could not find the power:weight ratio's for either truck and that's mostly what I wanted to base my argument on.

Already a proven fact that the SRT-10 is an over priced, under powered, glorified Ram. It just can't hang.
On the real, it was an issue that got addressed and the 01/02 detonation issues were fixed and for the back half of 02 the engines were produced with the issue resolved. I just wish they would have gone through with circulating the original design for the super cooler.

    Lots.
Power to weight ratios is simply power divided by weight...

411/6200 = .066 hp per pound for the Raptor
380/4670 = .081 hp per pound for the Lightning

That being said, the Lightning is going to BURN the Raptor on the street.

    Build thread in sig...
factor in the aerodynamic advantage of the lightning and better traction from street tires to those ratios, and i think the winner is fairly predictable.

Well like everyone else, you have your own opinion but it is still the "world's fastest production truck."

Well, my lawn mower pops wheelies off the line so who gives a rats ass about a lightning running a 13 second quarter mile?

Well, if you can show me some "unbiased" numbers other than something along the lines of "my buddy has a cousin" then I might listen to you, but considering I have actually driven both in stock form I will stick with my opinion.

As a former SRT10 Ram owner I noticed this thread. Between the Raptor vs the Lightning would beat the Raptor in a pavement drag race. The lightning is also easier and cheaper to build (cold air intake, pully on supercharger, exhaust and tuned) wakes these trucks up. The Raptor is heavier and doesn't have the aerodynamics of the Lightning.

Between the SRT10 Ram vs Lightning stock for stock I from personal experience have beat 3 lightnings every time I lined up next to them on a Drag Strip. With the SRT10 it's a drivers race since it's a 6 speed manual and getting the launch right. The first week of owning my SRT10 I ran it at the Strip and posted a 13.5 at 105 mph 2.22 60' so yes a SRT10 is faster not only in top end.

I do love the GMC Sy/TY's also since I'm a big fan of the GNX/Grand National/T Type.

The Lightning in the OP is a concept of the 3rd generation that was never built.
As a Lightningaholic since 03 I have to say the raptor is awesome but with all the extra weight I bet stock for stock the Lightning may slip by in the 1/4.

Rare is a stock Lightning so they can run 13 sec. down into the 9s and possibly 8s with crazy mods.
Mine is road course modded and gets around pretty well considering there is nothing that helps it, front/rear weight, overall weight, aero of a red brick, stock brakes die in a couple laps.

But like Tacomas we love to mod them.
One of our local Lightning members has a Raptor too!

This has got to be a joke. The 0-60 on the Raptor is like 8 second and runs a 16 second quarter mile. It's not even close. It's a 3 ton truck.

Tundras are massive. 12.9 is moving for something that large.
I have a very mild tune on my Lightning to keep it safe on pump gas and run 12.8s

Been a while since I ran at the drag strip, mostly road course anymore.
