Is that true? I didn’t think any second gens had a handbrake.

If/when you do I’d love to help you through wiring the cluster because I’d like to see someone get it working in a 12-15

    Interesting, makes perfect sense lol.

I’ve considered doing a 6 speed swap in my truck as well so I suppose I’m already one step ahead.

OP, did you drill the floor for the base of the hand parking brake?

That is correct. In fact the hand brake on the second gens is below the steering wheel on the right side, not by the console. Personally, I like this more myself as it is still out of the way.

@Brandonstacoma Can you describe in more detail how to make the 3rd gen front seats work with the 2nd gen airbags and airbag harness as far as modules and wiring harness compatibility.
I thought I had read that its not possible to make 3rd gen seat airbags work in 2nd gen but maybe I'm mistaken.
    Thanks

I didn’t have a lot of detail on that because I didn’t do it that way. I used a bypass resistor because I had no interest in making the seat airbags work seeing as they weren’t even an option until 2009.

however I do know it’s possible to do…. Both the second Gen and third Gen utilize an independent module inside of the seat to control the use of the seat airbag. The module works in conjunction with the occupancy sensor to trigger the airbag in the event of a crash.

The reason I know it will work is because the airbag itself isn’t the problem, the module sends feedback to the srs module but since the third Gen uses a CANBUS for most communications it won’t work with the 2nd Gen restraints system.

the module is located underneath the seat and is mounted next to all of your electrical plugs. There may be an additional module in the rear but I can’t confirm that.

with all of this being said this is why I went with the resistors. They’re plug and play and for the sake of $10 it saves a lot of truly unnecessary work. If you read incident reports of seat air bags they usually do more harm then good, plus my truck is a 2010 so I missed the cutoff by 1 year ……wopwopwop

    hope this helps!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but after seeing your latest update, our definition of "not as bad as you think" is not the same. :D The bad news for me, I have the JBL System for the door cards. The good, I do have a 2012 and you answered a question I had about the instrument cluster mating up, and how it'd look with the 2G if not. Yours looks good, I wouldn't sweat it! Though, i also actually like the 2.5 cluster too lol.

Awesome update. I'll be sticking with doing some OEM+ stuff, and leaving the conversion to you. I'll be watching this thread for any 3G conversion itch.

Haha! Just gotta be confident in yourself! However there is lots of mods you could do that are easy peasy, as in the 3rd Gen carpet for example, or third Gen seats, small things that don’t require any serious skill.
I’ve seen there’s a “Tesla” style 2nd Gen radio that gives you a huge screen and digital climate control while maintaining all factory functionality.

I considered this before deciding I’d much rather the third Gen interior.

Will you be showing how to make the illumination lights turn on from the 4x4 selector and the rest of the lower dash such as the ect, BSM, parking assist, and the rest? I started to get the parts to start the swap just need help with making the illumination lights work properly without tapping on the AC controls or head unit
