Were you able to connect the new passenger airbag?

Still considering which one I'll keep. Theoretically the 3rd gen connector should be able to be repinned to match the 2nd gen harness without any splicing (with the big caveat of not knowing the airbag internals, of course) but seems like the 3rd gen airbag would only be connected to the plastic dash since there's nowhere for it to mount to the reinforcement bar.

I'm leaning going with the 2nd gen since it would have the metal brackets for at least some support in the event it goes off... Unlikely since I rarely have passengers but there'll at least be something if they decide not to ride in the rear seats

Testing how it fits with it fully seated in the 3rd gen dash with the modification as OP showed. Wondering if my fit test above without the modification was causing the drastic angle difference

I believe that the metal brackets that holds it in place would need to be cut off so the glove box can fit.

I'm using the 2nd gen airbag. I'd rather not add more risk by using the 3rd gen airbag in addition to the altered angle... especially since OP had to bypass the seat airbags in his 3rd gen seats.

2nd gen airbag fits after I modified the slot on the 3rd gen dash as OP shows but fits very tight. I needed to pull the wiring harness clips out of the support bar and push it back. The airbag brackets sit right on the support bar so I plan to drill into it to bolt the airbag down

Do you have pictures? I haven't attempted the glove box at all yet.

IMG_8416.jpg Its this bracket that needs to be removed so the glove box can fit

Yeah I assumed so from how the dash fits and those stick out, was just curious if you already had it done

Yes, I have but removed the dash to fix the airbag. I can get pics once I get it back in

I ended up using an air chisel on the welds. Worked great

Have you already made the new holes for the shift assembly?

to solve this issue I made custom brackets and welded them into the angle they needed to be.
I know another guy who did the swap just bent the brackets to fit which isn’t the most ideal way of installing it but nevertheless getting it in there…

As for the plugs there was no need for me to repin since I used the 2nd Gen airbag is what I was saying.

it also was going to cost me $300 for the passenger side air bag which is more than I paid for the entire interior :rofl:

Not yet, hoping within the week though!

Custom brackets sounds like the move. I'm planning to revisit mine when it's warm again in the spring so I can get a more secure install. I just know as winter gets here I'll end up accidentally breaking some of the interior plastic at some point

Dang you got a great deal for the entire interior! Just my driver airbag was $600 USD and over $500 of everything else

I lucked out on the interior! I got a truck that was flooded and got the entire interior for $200.

I had to order an aftermarket radio, climate control and Master window switch but all together I think I’m into this swap for 6-700.
The custom instrument cluster cost $300 but I won’t include that… lol

It’s easiest just to cut them off and make new ones for the air bag.

Any other tips on making the glovebox fit? Already removed the brackets and an air duct

I needed to push some wiring harnesses on the right side (especially if you have the 4WD ECU) and a white module (not sure what it is off the top of my head, comms related module maybe?) out of the way while I pushed the glovebox in place

For that foot well air duct you mentioned, I broke off that small plastic shelf on its side which I'm assuming helped support the 2nd gen glovebox

I think the truck I got mine from was a farm/worksite truck. Dirt caked everything and deep scratches out the wazoo that a heat gun can't fix. Bit of a bummer but that salvage yard didn't price gouge like others near me - just the dash panel was over $400 less expensive compared to other yards in my area. I expect to re-upgrade the center console and door trims in a few years

Just saw your instrument panel picture, it looks great!

Have you gotten a chance to check if the passenger airbag switches to on when the seatbelt is on?

Not yet, haven't put my seats back in to test it. Waiting until I'm done with the center console changes
