Get out of the truck a bit. The lumbar postural muscles kinda turn off after about 20 minutes of being seated - it's not a natural position for our bodies. Standing up and moving around a bit gets your muscles and neurology firing again.

Can you swap the weight sensor from the Taco to FRS seats?

The new seats are far more comfortable than the OEM seats, especially on long drives.

Nice... now I have to find a solution for the airbags. As it turns out, not an easy task so far. Any links to where one might get seats or did ya get lucky at a pull and pay?

I got extremely lucky as my seats are the ones the guy here on TW actually modded first to work with the airbag system. A buddy of mine got them from him but then traded them to me for my OEM seats because they were too tight for him.

Just bought it, but it's been lifted and who knows what else has been crappily done before I got it. It's going to be a project for sure... but it's my daily driver too.

I put a Lexus power seat in my FJ a few years back, had to fabricate the brackets but it worked great. Not sure what I did for the airbag though.

So I’ve been trying to figure this out for a few days now, maybe someone can help me. I currently found a nice set of frs seats close to me at I believe a very decent price.
These would be going in my 2007 so there are no side airbags. I just have I believe a seat position sensor on driver side and an occupant sensor on the passenger side. No power at all. Will these far seats bolt in and plug in? I’ve read all over about issues making the side airbags work but I don’t have them. So will my sensors work with these seats or do they need to be modified? As much as I rarely travel with a passenger I don’t want to kill anyone by not having a center air bag work. But the price I found on the seats is basically the same price I found for an oem replacement bottom cushion alone and nothing else.

To sum it up. They are not direct bolt in. You’d have to have new mounts welded on or you can drill out the rivets and remove the old ones and bolt the seat to a Tacoma specific seat mount (example: Planted sells one but the prices have gone way up).

Side airbags no issue. Seat position sensor on driver side needs to be transferred over. Ideally you need to rig it up on a rail similar to stock.

Passenger side your only option is remove the 4 weight sensors from the passenger seat and clamp them with hose clamps or similar to simulate a person so that the airbag arms.

Oh and it’s easiest to transfer over the seat belt buckle receptacle too to keep the wiring the same.

^^^ Thank you for that. It answered a lot of my questions.

Do you happen to know if there is a write up for this modification? Curious if I can handle what needs to be done. Would hate to start spending money and realize it’s past what I’m capable of.

I looked up those planted brackets as well. Basically just tripled the cost of this mod for me lol

Here is my thread on it from a long time ago. Keep in mind it’s for a 2013 so the side airbag stuff doesn’t apply to you. If you search this forum you can find a couple threads where people clamped the weight sensors. At the time I installed my seats I was able to buy a bypass module for that but that’s no longer available. And I don’t even have the 2013 anymore.

I saw that post lol I just was honoring the no longer asking questions part haha. So thank you for the help! It’s appreciated.

and I’m assuming you had to use the planted seat brackets as well if your build?

Scheel-Mann makes a great orthopedic seat. I have a driver’s side, too expensive for a pair, at least for me. Metaltech carries them and they have the brackets as well. Best seat I’ve sat in.

Yeah I generally don’t but try to let people know what they are getting into.

Yes I used planted brackets. I drilled the rivets out on the FRS seats, removed the brackets and then mocked them up to the planteds. If I recall I used one pre-existing hole and drilled another either front or rear. I had to use some low profile bolts to clear the sliding rail. I believe I may have trimmed some metal off the ends of the sliding rail too but it’s been a long time.

Any airbag issues? I am guessing power can be tapped out of the center console somewhere. Thx.

I just installed a power drivers seat that came from a 2008 Hylander. I ran power directly from the battery and installed an inline fuse under the seat, I ran a ground wire from a bolt located under the side kick panel. I used the foam and airbag from the Tacoma seat, all of it swapped over no problem as the frames are basically identical.

Was it a bolt on affair? All 4 bolts line up and seat belts work? Thanks

I had to swap the rear brackets with each other and remove the riser brackets, they make the seat taller by about 1” to fit the hylander, they connect the sliders with the seat frame, just remove the 4 brackets.
    Seat belt is identical.
