Is there a consensus for the safety of removing the sway bar?

I did search first and couldn’t find what I was looking for. Just generalized statements.

if a quick disconnect kit was available, I’d just do that.

I drive a Camry to work, most of the time. So the trucks not really my daily. What I’m worried about is my fishing/camping spots require an hour to an hour and a half highway driving, 60mph, from home. I drive some challenging trails and my current set up is not the best, bilstein 5100 front with OME 885 and SPC UCA and bilstein 5125 in the back back with all pro expedition leaf pack. Seems like I could really benefit from removing the sway bar for off road but don’t want a death trap on the highway. Ride quality for general on road use is not a concern.

also, the off-road use is low speed. Thanks

How beefy is that front suspension of yours, do you feel like it’s stout enough. I have aftermarket Also and I don’t run a sway and haven’t in 20k miles and me personally haven’t felt unsafe at speeds around 85mph.

I’ll report back. If I don’t it’s because I died because I took it off.

not sure what Ur lookin for

    permission or absolution

millions o cars have been manufactured without sway bars

just as many with sway bars

ideally the suspension package should be ‘ tuned ‘ to get an optimun cornering or stability effect

thats in most cases = either or

toooooo tight/stiff o suspension with a sway bar can induce skidding/ spin outs

toooooo soft or compliant can result in a lot of steering input/body roll

    most strive for the middle

those big gobby monster tyres on asphalt or dirt tend to negate sway bar effectiveness

a tacoma is never going to be a Porsche/corvette

in a spontaneous scenario used to 1 or the other can result in being caught out resulting

    in mishap accident ...............guardrail/tree

long travel suspensions dont usually function well with standard Sway Bars

    asphalt or dirt

I have 5100s and 885s on my truck, no front swaybar and I do 80mph every day on my way to work. Plenty of 200-500 mile trips and no problem. Slightly more body roll but I have never thought to myself "I wish I still had my sway bar"

Haha no problems taking the sway bar off, maybe a slight amount more body roll but not bad at all. No off roading yet. Got a trip planned in a week so we’ll see.

I don't get why companies don't develop a quick disconnect for the Tacoma.
It's not like there's "no market for it".
There's lots of Tacoma owners. And lots that would buy it.

People have tried inventing their own. They say it's hard.
Maybe I need to find and message one to ask if they would.
One guy on TW says he's trying to develop one.

New off road vehicles have electronic quick disconnect operated via button inside the cab.
like certain new Jeep model(s). Ford Bronco. And Hummer EV.

People with upgraded sporty cars sometimes don't run a bar. It depends on the car.
Audi's are front heavy with the engine far ahead so you need a big front bar to reduce understeer.
But on other cars some people who upgrade the springrate stiffer and have better shocks, might have strong enough suspension to where they no longer really even need a sway bar.
But those are suspensions designed to keep a sports car flat on a track.
Completely different from a truck that has to articulate off road.

I'd be scared of running no bars constantly. I heard it makes the truck drift around in strong wind.
Because what if you're on flat road on the way to a trail (such as highway) and some car does crazy shit up ahead and you need to swerve to avoid it?
Or what if your road is a twisty/winding mountain road that's mostly turns?
The truck already struggles to keep up enough on roads like that versus cars because it's not designed to excel at that type of driving, and that's with the swaybars still installed

I took mine off and literally nothing happened lol 285/70/17 and over 600 lb coils I even tested it on the road feels the same. At first I could feel some slight variations but it mostly felt better.

Ok, did some crawling and night and day difference. Way better without the sway bar. The road I drove normally makes me nervous as shit and it was like nothing. Of course now my tires rub like hell, 255/85/16, that never happened before. But makes me glad to know the suspension has that much more movement going on. Also did more high speed on road use on this trips and def need to take it easy without the sway bar but not to the point where I’m gonna put it back on. Thanks.
