Hi team. I was left this sweet gift last night after going to the hockey game. I guess thats what I get for parking my truck on the street and not in a lot? I dont know but it sucks. Good thing is the tailgate still works fine, everything works its just a bummer. Looks like a new tailgate(duh) and maybe bumper caps.

So what are my options here? Dealer for a tailgate? Are salvage yards even an option this early into production?

    Any help would be welcomed.

    No comprehensive insurance?

Even a salvage tailgate in the right color, if you can find it, would probably be $400+.

What's your deductible? Insurance companies won't raise your rates if you were not in the vehicle when the damage happened, but you will have to pay your deductible. I had some vandalism and looked into filing a claim but my deductible is $1000 so I decided just to live with the scratches keyed into my door and hood.

My question is, how was such a dent left on it?

That is a very interesting dent....almost looks like it was caused by some sort of equipment and not a vehicle. Did you park it near an area of municipal service vehicles or such?

Anyway, there was a guy on here selling 3rd gen tailgates in California for $300 I think. He works at a cap company and has a ton of take off tail gates from fleet vehicles. Try the search.

James bond would figure it out if anyone right haha. It sucks because the contact was so high on the truck the tailgate lip got all the action.

I was thinking dumpster bin or something that someone was moving but they would have to hit it hard to do that kind of damage. I'll check the search, thanks.

Go to the surrounding companies for camera footage, as @RIDERED67 said, that does not look like a car. I'd get camera footage if possible, and go the police, but hey thats me.

I second this. It looks like a big rig backed into it because there is no bumper damage... It must have been a tall vehicle.

To me personally this looks pried. The tonneau cover shouldn't be propped up like that unless it was lift/bent when a bracket broke. The dent on the top of the tailgate goes downwards at an angle and not straight is if something bumped into you.

they most likely pried it enough to see if there was something worth taking in the bed, and not all the way. Cause to take the time to pry it all the way, then there not be anything in there wouldn't be worth the risk... Go to the local department and see if other truck owners with bed covers have reported the same thing.

Sorry that happened to you man, but it really does seem like somebody tried to break into your bed. When filing the report ask them if other similar things have happened in the area of the city you parked in.

if it backed into a light pole there would be damage on the bumper.
