My guy does the same thing for $120

My issue is, if he was doing it RIGHT, $120 is fine. I don't really care. That said, I don't want to open the filter/hole in the ground and find tons of leaves and see him NOT doing his job. That is what bugs me.

Just moved into my house and have a pool for the first time. Definitely daunting at first and had some green growth, but getting the hang of it. Just installed a variable speed pump as my old pump had a bearing going out and used way too much energy. Also almost had it overflow tonight with all this rain as well.

How much was your variable pump ?

Is it worth throwing $ at my good pump to get variable instead ?

I agree, for what little work involved they need to do it completely and well.

I got the Hayward 2302VSP off Amazon for $540 shipped but PG&E has a $100 rebate for energy efficient pool pumps. Worth it alone for how quiet it is. I can run it all night unlike my old one since it was so freaking loud.

Typically people save $30-80 a month by switching so in a year it pays for itself. Worth it to me.

Variable speed pump will pay for itself in energy costs savings. I also live in CA and my electric bill is typically disgusting.

Wow, that's low. Now knowing that, I wouldn't replace the pump until its end of life.

Usually around $250 for electricity. I'm paying close attention to it this month since we switched but also hard to judge since we have to use the lights and heater more than the summer. Still hoping for a drop.

I used to run a pool service route in northern Cali the times you guys are stating for service tech times about right if they are on top of their game (experienced). Here in Alabama at this time of the year 30-45 minutes per pool. Shit load of leaves. Middle of summer 15-20. The rates you all are paying are normal for your areas. You all would crap in your pants at our rates here. Not going to tell you, but yours are cheap. Your service tech is making around 20+ stops in an 8hr day. Here we can do 12-15 in 10hrs.

I could never do more than 12 - 15 in a day, even if all of the pools were spotless when I got there. I couldn't bring myself to take the lazy way out and I still vacuumed and brushed down every pool every time.

I have no problem with the rates, or the time. My problem is the quality of work or lack thereof..
