I was looking at the swing out tire carriers on the Chevy Blazers, the ZR2 from back around 2000 and I got to thinking maybe you could fit it to a first gen. The body lines are pretty close and you could secure it to the sheet metal with a zip nut like Land Rover uses. Anyone have any experience with anything like this? Anyone used anything from a simular model?

I scored a swing out from an earlier 4Runner with the same intentions... The body parts breakdown for the 4Runner included a reinforcement bracket. I was not able to determine if all 4Runners of that vintage included the brace or not. You'd have to somehow reinforce the body sheet metal or it won't last long and tear up your bed corner... My skills didn't go that far. I ended up selling it to someone else...

    Good luck!
