Who builds the best swing outs and why?

    Preferably without cutting the bed.

Swing out tire carriers? Like on bumpers? You don't need to cut the bed with standard plate bumpers, but high clearance bumpers are stronger.

I have CBI's swing out tire carrier on a trail master 2.0 bumper. Product wise...not bad. I had them make me a dual swing arm like Xoverland's setup that they had for one of their 4runners (talked to Jeff at Overland Expo West in 2015 who said he preferred double to single swing arm) to 1. decrease the overall footprint, 2. make each arm a little lighter. I also ordered up a dual jerry can holder, hi-lift mount, and cb-mount (was advertised on their website as included/standard). As well, I asked them to make me 2 fold down camp tables for each arm. I also ordered up the telescoping camp light. Yea...I saved up a long time for this...

    Things that didn't go well:
    1. First off... they shipped it to me without any install instructions. I emailed them and they wrote a bit up in an email but I'd say 50% of it I had to figure out on my own. Mind you I'm a bit of an amateur so probably not the most accurate judge of this..

    2. My request was to have swing arms I could remove when I didn't need them. They recommended spindle protectors so I had them fabricate 2 for me. Turns out the swing arms fit so snuggly on the spindles (which is a good thing) that it's not practical to take them on and off so maybe not the best recommendation on their part. Wish they just told me it was not really that practical and avoid paying them to fab those spindle protectors.

    3. Next up, they only made 1 camp table. When they finally made a second one for me and sent it, the parts did not fit as they had intended so obviously it was a quick job that they didn't really test out before sending to me. The camp tables don't fit up snug with the swing arm - protruding bolts made that impossible. Also their latching mechanism didn't work at this point so I had to McGyver my own. I sent them multiple emails to get some ideas and got no responses until I posted it on instagram and someone else tagged them in the post saying they had the same issues with CBI.

    4. (minor), they forgot the CB mount. I made my own.

    5. They sent me hardware that wasn't stainless steel...so those bits rusted pretty quick. I live in Canada. Winter's a bitch. So's the salt they use on the roads.

    Things that went well:

    1. Bumper was a perfect fit and hitch has held out well towing a 18.5' tent trailer all summer long for family trips. Entire setup has held up including swing arms and tire carrier.

    2. Telescoping camp light pole works well

    3. Hi-lift mount works well

    4. Tire carrier works as intended after adjusting to my tire size. So awesome for field tire changes.

    5. High clearance and holes for trailer harness are perfect as is the supplied license plate light.

    Please note:
Jerry cans will be the narrower metal ones. I wasn't able to fit spectre jerry cans in there. If you plan on hauling loads in the box, the swing arm components will get in the way - especially the tire carrier. I have to put the tire back under the box in the OEM spot when I haul a tent trailer otherwise the tongue jack hits the spare.

So like I said, product wise...not bad. Except for some engineering oversights (for that much cash, I expect near perfection). I'd give them 7/10 there. Minor issues that I can figure out and work around. Customer service wise, I'd give them 4/10. I'm sure it'd be done right and well if I had rolled into their shop for them to do the install and they did a good job with Xoverland... just not the best with mine. I'll be writing this all up with pictures and install walk through so others can get an idea of the process on our blog: nooblanders.com. Hope to have it up....before Christmas? HAH. Pelfreybilt, Allpro Offroad, Relentless Fabrication, and Cruisin Offroad (BC, Canada) also make a swing out tire carrier.

    Good luck!

I like Pelfreybilt's standard rear swing out the best. The current wait times they have are crazy. I also like All-pro's. 4xinnovations has a nice standard swing out too.

I was a little worried when I ordered. But it is beefy. I got the high clearance with the wrap around jack mount light buckets and Jack points it was about $1500 shipped

Stupid amount of extra heavy metal all over
My vote is for 4xinnovations since they use double-shear hinges instead of the more common spindle. Easier to remove when you want to detach the swingout, and I feel like it's a stronger design (not that there's a lot of examples of other hinge types failing, but it happens)

I've bought their hinge to use on both the swingouts/bumpers I've welded up myself
