ya I was thinking about the fuel aspect but it becomes the issue of is it better to haul it or just pay the price?
figure if you have all that weight are you going to be burning more fuel and need more?

Figure with 80L you basically have two full tanks of gas, thing is the speed and what not may make a big difference.
Figure if its only 4lo 20km tops you will be burning a lot faster.

I'm just curious what type of MPG we would actually be getting.
If a tank only last 250km on trail then 80L would be necessary for the distance. But really it will likely be a lot more. Just not sure how much.
Hell some of the 'trail' is just gravel roads so 2wd will be easy

Nothing wrong with those. I have sceptor ones. They all work...

I have the room now. I’m use to carrying 60l as my mileage is shit anyways. Figured an extra 20 in case.

Im thinking alot of it will be 2wd and so far with this group we will be moving quickly i think. Only will need 4lo for the bad sections im thinking which wont be too often of the 800km. .

I don’t have foxes like you or the fancy Chevy suspension like @Ttaco15. I’ll be on 25psi thank you.

I have held off on purchase of the gas cans yet, to ensure I get the right size. I am leaning towards 3 x 20 L as I think @Ttaco15 is correct.

As one of the old jeepers I met put it

'Airing down is the cheapest suspension upgrade you can do'

I agree with him, it makes such a difference.

Not sure if there’s a costco in your neck of the woods. But 2 scepter “jeep style” tall skinnies jerry cans. Pack of 2 for $21 there. Thank @Joe23 for them,

Airing down will make mpg worse though but will help soften the ride

My truck will rattle apart and I’ll be 3 inches shorter by the end of the trip if I don’t air down. Lol. The joys of e rated tires and a stiff suspension.

I'm thinking aired down to 25-27psi would be best. With the weight we'll have don't think we need to go lower unless really trying to get traction

Yup. Really depends on the terrain. If it’s like the entrance at ardbeg I’m airing down to 25 ish. I’ll monitor the tires with speed. If it’s a regular dirt road I may go to 30. See how she goes.

You need to bring it with you. It’s not a game of bring fuel with vs just pay more, there is not fuel to buy. The one stretch is 300 miles (not sure wha that is in km) between fuel stops

Most of it is 2wd. I used 4lo a handful of times that was it. But I also have a rear locker so guys with open diffs may need 4 wheel
yes, unless you want your kidneys to fall out. I ran 18 front 20 rear. There are some very smooth sections but a lot of it is dirt roads or two tire tracks lined with rocks that vary from baseball to grapefruit sized. Road psi only lasted a few miles before we aired down lol. But we did past areas where they were actively widening and grading the road so it could be totally different by now, that was a year and a half ago now

No doubt we need to bring but I think the idea was do we bring maybe 100L or more. If you fill up at the start and bring an additional 80L that's two full tanks.
What I think Peter meant was that if we bring more so we don't need to pay for fuel when it's an option

Ahh yea I see what your saying. Depending on your truck though you may actually need it. We all filled up at the start and My 4cyl 5 speed access cab made it to the next gas stop using only 20L extra. The double cab long bed in our group put in 60L extra and got to the station on fumes. And we had no issues. If someone got stuck or a situation requiring fuel consumption but or covering any ground happened he would have needed even more. At one point we considered dumping all the extra gas we had into my truck and then I’d go off on my own with all the empty Jerry’s to get them filled but after some mapping and math we figured he would be able to make it.
