I purchased the 2WD LO harness and a switch from CH4x4.
(cannot post there the forum says I am less than 30 days old...?)
I haven't installed my 2WDLo yet as the CH4x4 switch looks too narrow. Didn't want to open everything up till I confirmed.
Does the CH4x4 switch fit the switch openings in front of the auto stick shift?

There are two main sizes of Toyota switches - the tall narrow one and the shorter one. I believe the only tall blank in the 3rd gen Tacoma is on the automatics where the clutch start cancel switch is on the manuals (left of the steering wheel). The switches below the climate controls in the center are all the smaller ones. CH4X4 sells both, so it depends on which one you bought.

    The shorter (smaller) one:

    The tall one:

thank you @dilbert, this is helpful info.

The switch I ordered and received mics at about 0.82" wide x 1.53" high.
Yes it fits the sole opening you show above, to left of steering column.
I have my tow controller just left of that and really don't want the 2LO button where I could hit it accidentally, was planning on it just under the 4WD selector wheel.

All other switch openings on my 2023 tacoma are 1.00" w x 1.35" high.
Reaching out to CH4x4 to get dimensions on their "short" switch.

This is their website product data: Weight2 oz Dimensions 5 × 5 × 3 in. Maybe shipping package size.

Unless you have something weird, the 2lo switch will just stop the front diff from engaging, so no real harm in accidentally hitting it, it won’t engage anything without turning the 4wd knob

Where did you find the 2WDLo harness on that website? I can't seem to find it.

As stated you need a “short” or “small” switch I believe they are called. And I would recommend going to Air on Board for a “Toyota new Blue” option instead of the terrible super bright blue of CH4x4. CH doesn’t match the dash at all and it’s so bright, the AOB switches are a lot better in that regard. Still not perfect but a bunch closer.

    I bought SW978NB from AOB

    https://www.aironboard.com/online/push-switch-978nb-12volt-toyota-oem-2wd-low-range-78.html

Also as stated by others, there is no risk from accidentally hitting the switch. In 2WD it doesn’t really do anything at all. You could click the switch on and off repeatedly and nothing would happen. I do think under the 4x4 switch makes more sense as a location so they’re close and I don’t like that blue in the switch so I’d buy the small AOB and be done with it.

    Thanks BLtheP.
    Looked this up
It has a face surface size of 1.28" x 0.87
My truck has 1.38x1 openings, maybe the plastic clips on switch make up the difference?
    What year is your truck?

Been waiting for less snow to install this, today was the day.
    1. OEM Glovebox sheetmetal screws were overdriven and essentially drilled out the plastic screwholes - each has a plastic curl wrapped around the very sharp threads.
Have to go find some larger replacements. For now wrapped threads in yellow Teflon gas fitting tape (thicker than plumbing rape.)
    upload_2024-3-1_17-46-58.png

    2. Heck of a time unclipping the plastic skirt attached to airbag assembly. Obvious screwdriver press option but never got the knack. First try a week ago, snagged on this step and put it back together.

    3. Little room to stow the BB Tuning harness connectors on my 2023 truck. Dash does not seem to hit them. I wrapped the clear plastic Relay Module in HVAC foam, sat it on a metal strut and zip tied. Ditto for the gold metal item (a resistor or heat sink?)

    4. No disassembly of center console required. Able to pop out center console switchplate under 4WD selector, and fish the new switch wire to opening. Ran split loom for protection. Ran wire from harness at right of cabin fan, to below fan, up through left lower fan support, and left behind center console. A few zip ties.

    5. new Air On Board switch is faulty; sticky without spring release after pressing. After popping off switch cover, testing the internal sprung center, that worked fine. Carefully wiped the white plastic interior with a tiny bit of silicone and reassembled. It works, just barely. Once installed it tends to hang up. Switch frame is just not a good fit on my truck, easy to push it in too far and hangs up the switch internals.

    6. After reassembly, testing BB Tuning operation in road. Loud clunk on engaging LO that I don't recall from earlier, but uncertain as truck is pretty new. Will trial in a parking lot where I can feel front wheel resistance better.

@Max8 - can you please elaborate on how you popped out the center console switchplate?

I want to replace mine, - I have a 3D printed version with some additional slots - but have hesitated to tear into the centet console dissasembly...

    Thank you

Once the dash pieces are apart for the install you can reach through and pop it out

Pull radio trim, remove radio, pop right side of steering wheel trim slightly loose to free up AC control trim, remove AC trim fully, unplug and then I think that’s it to have full access to the 6-switch row.

I followed this video to remove the passsenger side trims, (figured out the... airbag), and glovebox.
search for youtube.com and then [c96kAUdhciY] without brackets

    that leaves you with this:
    upload_2024-3-2_11-4-30.png

The switchplate cover/insert has top and bottom plastic prongs. Was able to push from rear with a piece of shim shingle with a wad of tape balled on the end as a lever and pry with plastic scraper from front to remove it.
    upload_2024-3-2_10-54-58.png

Then fished wire through with nonconductive fiberglass rod and a bit of string.

Hi all, I have a 2022 trd pro. I purchased and installed the harness/switch following the video. But when I started the engine, error light (check break, abs…etc) came up. switching to 4 high or 4 low with or without 2lo mod yields no response from the truck. Any body had similar problems? Could it be that the 22 trd pro wiring is different? Any suggestions welcome.

    Buggered-up harness perhaps?

Start by confirming that all fittings are properly clicked-in. Ensure that no wires were caught/damaged by screws, clips, etc. and try again. If not - maybe it is a harness issue.

Mine worked without issue as most others' installations posted here...

Thank you @OZ TRD, I made an idiotic mistake, it is all good now. In my defense, wife and kids kept bugging me while I was doing it and we needed to leave the house soon. I enjoy the 2 Lo when backing into my narrow garage. Thank you again.

    Great news!
    Enjoy!
This mod is great - I use it quite a bit more than I expected to.
