Switch for Yota Mafia Rock Light Kit?

I have the yota mafia rock light kit, I love the white lights and how they turn on with my truck. The only issue I have is I wanna drive with them on at night cause it’s legal in my state but my third brake light is too bright and I got a ticket for it because I have Meso customs BD5 all Baja design rock lights in the third brake light.. anyone have any ideas on how to change the yota mafia rock light kit to install a switch or something that will make it so the rock lights Turn on only? I want to keep the functionality of unlocking my truck and having those rock lights turn on and off when I shut my truck but also have them on without the brake lights being on when driving. Sorry if this is long and confusing but need to get it soon!

 

I’m currently installing the same rock lights but with 9 cyclones. I will eventually have them on separate switches like you described. It’s explained how to do this in the rock light instructions on page 16. You can download the instructions from their site if you don’t have them. I’m waiting on my custom MESO switch panel and cargo bed switch to arrive so I can finish up the install.

 

So basically the cargo light will act separate than the rock light kit? Meaning they will turn on when you lock and unlock but then when you turn the switch on it’ll just light up your rock lights correct?

 

Yea both being on different switches and left on then they both should come on when unlocking the truck. When you want to start driving and not have the cargo light on then you can use the separate cargo switch and set it to off. That’s what I understood from the instructions at least haha. I’ll let you know how it works out for me but if you end up doing it first let me know!

Seems they do not know how the circuit works...especially when they say there's no hot wire for illumination...

 

Without getting into a lot of details. Toyota uses the negative lead to trigger the Cargo light therefore there is not a hot lead that would light an illuminated switch (Led lights when switch is on) Yotamafia uses the same negative lead for their kit. By design most illuminated led switches tie the hot lead of the Led to the switched side assuming that the feed to the switch will be positive which is correct in most cases. If you use a switch with the Led wired that way it can cause a problem with the circuit. Simple solution is to just use a plain standard SPST switch connected to the leads as indicated in the instructions. By the way I think that Yotamafia may be working on a custom switch that will fit the panel and blend in with the factory switch.
