I have an electrical question for you guys. I have a light switch that I’m installing into my switch panel under the climate control. the only thing is the new switch has a light and the old one doesn’t. I’d like to feed the light wire off the switch beside it’s light wire instead of having to put an add a fuse into the fuse box.
Can I strip the current “lighting” wire on the new light switch, then expose the light wire on the switch I want to connect, connect them, wrap them in electrical tape. Then just install the switches?

Or will this end in disaster?

Should be okay electrically, the light in the switch should be pretty low power.

The pitfall is the connection. If you've got soldering as an option, you'll want to do something like the military splice:

Then wrap it up in shrink wrap or possibly liquid electrical tape. Regular electric tape tends to be pretty temporary.

Anytime. Worst case, it blows a fuse. In which case, you'll want to add a new fuse and circuit, but I doubt you'll need to.

After all that. The damn switch is too big for the switch plate!

I’ve wedged this in there enough to do for now. Once I start adding more lights and such I’ll look into switching out the full switch plate and make it pretty.
