many vehicles new from factories have synth oil originally

i caution against switching oils seldom is merit a basis for change..............usually marketing

at 100k miles U only had extended oil changes to gain

there are at least 4 diff basic ' Synth ' oils............ many more blends

there are few staright base or straight weight oils available

pick ONE & stick to it !

ROAD DOG the truck I was referencing is a 96 model and I'm pretty sure it did not come from the factory with synthetic oil in it.

If you live in the cold cold North, you should use synthetic if you plan on starting the car when it's below zero.

I've run synthetic in everything I've owned and the only car that leaked was a Volvo 850 -- and that leaked because the PO let the PCV system plug and it huffed out all its seals. It had nothing to do with the type of oil.

by the mileage alone i didnt think it came with synth

point attempted is there are many wives tales ..........rule o thumbs

    that hold little merit

Ur truth in reality synth created a leak..............that i dont dispute
    thousands have said the same
    thats Ur reality

save for the fact most multi weight oils have a great deal of ' synthetic polymers '...................
blended into high grade base oils

resulting in the spread 20w -50............0w-20 etc

in effect only has been recent oils are ' full synths' ( if U get around the marketing on the bottles )

so in effect 95% of everybody has been running ' synths ' in 1 form or the other ( of which there are 4 basic types )

U can still buy straight weight oil & yes i used to mix my own
been a while .................worked great in consideration of hard use.......heat & long mileage
    never lost an engine

i dont recommend switching ( mixing polymers creat crap )
i dont recommend synths after an engine has passed its optimum

break in is slightly diff on Dino vs synth
only thing truly getting broke in are the rings ( keepin compression )
bottom end bearings shouldnt be touching the crank anyways

save for HD (1200 ft lb springs valves ) most engines have reduced valve spring pressure
computer ramps on race cams are far more forgiving

next time U buy new chk in at 5000 miles
keep Ur idling to min to non existing

    good luck
