It shouldn't take this long. They could have one now if they wanted.

I think the economy has slowed the R&D down. There have been rumors on some other forums about it being developed. When they came out the MKII for the 1GR, I was hoping it was the one for the 2TR.

They have it listed as under development on the URD site. I can't wait. I think I'd sell a kidney to afford one.

Just a little thought I have tossed around in my head - Mercedes used a supercharger on some Kompressor models that used an electric clutch to turn the SC on and off. I have seen an article or two on the web about people adding them to other vehicles. You might want to look at that.

With modern SC's, a "Switch" is not needed as they use Bypass valves. A bypass valve allows the SC'ed engine to run like an NA engine, under vacuum conditions. When vacuum drops (signifying a floored throttle, for example), the bypass closes, and boost is achieved. Modern SC's have very little parasitic drag, as compared to SC'es from even 10 years ago. In most cases, an SC inflicts no more parasitic drag on the engine, when under normal driving conditions, than the power steering pump takes.

I would say the best thing for the 2.7 would be a Turbo with a Electronic Boost Controller. so Depending on the money! you could have a switch for High/Low Boost.. or have a real nice one that you could adjust psi up and down from the cab.

I've definitely considered Turbo, but installation is so much trickier. Plus, I prefer the behavior of SC over Turbo.

oh man, stop talking about it, your getting me excited, a supercharger for my 4 cylinder, damn drooled on the keyboard, that would be sweet if URD released one, definately know what my next investment would be, a surpercharger to go a long with my CAI, and custom exhaust, oh well guess i will just put my new 285/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on to tie me over till then.

Here's an answer in this thread as to why URD has taken so long... the wa-a-a-aiting is the hardest part!
I say 1-2 mpg loss and un-switchable be damned, are-me-gettin' one... :burnrubber:

Nice Tom Petty quote, I guess he's only doing what's best for his company, but I agree that sooner is better.

on my 03 3rz I lost about 1 to 1/2 but its so much more fun and if I could drive a whole tank w/o boost I would probably be real close to original mpg. but what fun would that be? The S/C changed everything, the 3rz was dog slow and passing was a joke. Now the take off is decent and passing is actually fun. The 45 to 70mph is a whole lot of fun! I have 32 in tires as opposed to the stock 31. I consider regearing for them but the s/c makes the difference and then some. As for on and off I have tried running with the vacuum blocked off and MPG was horrible.

I'm torn as to whether I should buy Alpine or URD when they come out. Maybe their prices will make the decision for me.
