Alright guys, I recently busted one of my original 650lb Icon springs and purchased the 700lb set from Wheelers, not realizing it was going to be such a difference because what is 50lbs right? Well, man was I wrong and something is definitely not right!!! After picking the truck up yesterday I felt like I was in the BAHA 1000 or some Sh*T. Called Icon and got some dumb-a$$ that said the 700lb spring was for heavier applications such as skidplates and whatnot and didn't even hear my concern that I'm bouncing all over the place. So I called Wheelers where I purchased the springs and they informed that they need to be re-adjusted to get the right compression. Can anyone lend a hand in helping me figure this out because I like to square it away ASAP?

I would suspect your shocks are bad if you're bouncing all over. You'll have a stiffer ride with HD springs but bouncing all over tends to be because the shocks can no longer dampen the suspension movement.

I believe the stock TRD coils are 540 lbs, the Toytec/Eibachs are 620 lbs, the heaviest OME coils are 660 lbs and you installed 700 lb coils. I would not be shocked if it had a harsh ride. From what I've seen that's the firmest coil recommended for these trucks and that's only with extra weight up front like a steel bumper and winch. Sounds like the dumb-a$$ from Icon was actually giving you good information.

Basically what this guy said. Also, aren't Icon coils 13"? And normal coils are 14" IIRC? So you added 50lbs and an 1" of coil, you are super over sprung if you don't have a plate bumper and skids and a winch lol. Even 650 is a little swiff if you are still stock front end (no armor)

    +1

I have 14" 700lb springs on my truck, no bouncing issues. I do have plate bumpers, winch, and skid plates though. Op why did you go to 700lb springs in the first place?

Let me say this again, the truck is not riding harsh it is extremely bouncy and not firm. My 650's were much more firm than what I'm currently experiencing. So, not to call out Dumb-A$$, but when a customer who has spent 1200 - 1400 hundred dollars on your products, calls and has a concern you expect an intelligent response to explain what the issue is and why. Now that is cleared up, does anyway know If pre-loading would help or make the situation worse? I can deal with a littler harsher ride, but something just doesn't seem right.

How much extra weight do you have on your truck to require 700 lb coils?

Thanks bro, that's what I was looking for. I Purchased the 700lb springs from wheelers because it was the only option and didn't do my research because I thought it wasn't a big deal. Boy was I wrong huh. Well, I guess I'll be selling these ones and buying the 650's. Dam I hate when I do sh*t like that.

I would try and un-crank the collars on your coilovers almost all the way so there's very little pre-load on them and see how that feels. The 700 lb springs are also an inch longer.

Like someone else already said, if you are bouncing, your shock absorber isn't functioning properly.

It could be that or he has no droop left (lifted too much because of the heavier/longer spring)

You said your original spring 'busted'. Did the shock fully collapse and bottom out when that happened? It really sounds like you have an issue with the shock.

That's not necessarily true if his coils are oversprung for his weight. If his shocks are valved/made for 650# and he add's an inch of coil plus a 50# heavier coil, he doesn't have the weight for it so his shock is functioning just fine, it's just not valved for the coil or the weight of his truck.

Yea I'm pretty sure only icon uses the 13" coil and the rest of the companies are 14"?

Not to insult the OP or anything, but its not customer services fault if the customer orders something without researching first. It's not customer services fault if the customer doesn't know what he needs and fails to ask.

And 'not functioning properly' pretty much leads towards 'broken'. It infers that it is not working the way it should. In this case, it is not being 'used' properly. Huge difference. Semantics is fun!

Take a picture of your coil overs and post it...are they brand new? Miles on them. Is your truck armored, weight added up front???

You can easily source a set of used springs probably even locally because a lot of guys move up to heavier spring rates after adding bumpers.

Fellas, there isn't anything wrong with my shocks as VT stated, just failed to do my research. I took for granted there wasn't much difference between the 700 pound spring and the 650 because Wheelers doesn't offer the 650 spring and found out they have to special order them from Icon. The 700lb Spring is a inch longer and has way to much preload causing the extreme harshness and bouncing I was experiencing. The problem I have is that one of the adjustment screws on the collar snapped off and it needs to be drilled out and re-tapped, to see if Any improvement can be made. If not, I will be listing them for 175.00 for someone who can use them. Just praying I don't F up the shock trying to remove the screw. So we'll see and will keep ya guys posted. Hopefully someone learns from my experience and that's why we love this forum and $hit right!!!!

I'm glad you got it figured out man! That's great news. Although I'm sure Wheelers offers the Icons with 650lb springs, that's what comes standard. I had to specify 700lb when I ordered mine. Unless they have changed which spring comes standard in the past year.
