I have a 2010 Taco..... where would I find a relative convenient switched power source? To clarify: I'm wanting to power a front camera that will be supplied by a power source that turns off with the Key.

Best bet is to use a fuse tap from the inside.

Yes, that could be done. Thanks. I'd still prefer to make the tap before I come through the firewall.... Anyone else?

You could use the ignition leg of the inverter relay if you have one, that's what I used to do the fog anytime mod on mine.20210107_204614.jpg

DM93, Yes...I have one and THAT's a good idea. I did the Anytime fog mod too by tapping the ECI inside the main box. I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not due to how critical that circuit is.

If you mean EFI fuse I would move it to something else, the EFI circuit will power up when the truck is off to run the EVAP leak test so if you accidentally leave your fogs on it could potentially kill your battery.

When I put seat heaters in mine I was looking for a key hot circuit under the hood just to turn on a relay and couldn't find anything that I would want to risk tying into.

I have gauges and already had drilled through the firewall for them so I picked up a key hot circuit from the inside, fused it and ran it back to the relay under the hood. The hole I put in is grommeted and has loom running through it so pulling another wire through wasn't bad. Just be sure to protect and fuse the wire.

I have noticed that when I do leave my fogs on...... getting out of the truck, they are on for about 10 seconds, then turn off. Didn't know that the EFI circuit would come on again for a EVAP test though.

EVAP test runs 3-6 hrs after the truck is turned off, I think it lasts 10-30 min.

Good to know.... Thanks. My side circuit box is a little different from yours. Is this the inverter relay?

I may end up going this route. Thanks!

Alright, I was able to get to-it this afternoon,.. finally. In the end, I used a fuse-tap from the inside circuit box.... instead of making a tap under the hood. I now have power (switched by the key) to both the backup and forward cameras. The backup cam is still activated by selecting Reverse. Both cams can be manually selected via the HU at anytime. Thanks for the input everyone!

Older thread but in the same situation now. I want to tap into the fuse box under the hood on the driver side. I have found a couple places(drl) to tap into but after checking, those fuses stay "hot" even after I turn off the truck. I assume its normal for some to stay that way after shutting off the truck?
