Hello, would there be any issue switching from Castrol conventional to Mobil 1 synthetic in a 4.0 with 74,000 miles. I have read that when switching from conventional to synthetic you should not change brands, but do not know if that is true. Either way I want to transition to Mobil 1. Thanks in advance.

I buy whatever synthetic oil is on sale and am currently on a 12500 mile oci based upon oil analysis. IMO the brands are all about the same.

I don't believe you have to worry about it.

Oil threads can be entertaining. There will be plenty of opinions.

    Enjoy

    I’d assume you’d be fine.

Switched to full synthetic here @60k (When I bought it) Zero issues @108K. These engines are quite complex compared to the pushrod engines of yesterday. Oil has to work hard and travel a long way to do it's job. Use the best you can afford Mobil 1 is a top choice IMO

Thanks everyone. My concern was switching from conventional to synthetic, and changing brands [Castrol to Mobil 1] at the same time.

The only reason not to change brands is to keep one oil company happy. That's not a good enough reason for me. There is absolutely no physical / chemical / mechanical reason for it.

I'll be putting in Mobil 1 synthetic for my next oil change. 4.0 v6, 89k miles.
I did notice that fram recommends the xtra gaurd filter for synthetic oil. So I bought one of those too at Walmart for a couple of bucks extra. I used to put in the cheaper filter on my last Taco with no issues. But for the price of a cup of coffee, what the heck. Gonna spoil this engine for as many miles as I can get out of it.
