my front diff went out in my truck this weekend when i was up in the snow and im putting a differential from a 99 tacoma that someone sold me into my truck. problem is that i think this diff was for a truck with the auto locking hubs where mine is manual hubs. the differential in my truck now does not have any of the stuff circled. is there any way to wire the new differential up so that it is always locked in since i have manual hubs anyways??

That diff is for a electric/vacuum transfercase. That part circled is the automatic differential disconect. Not sure if you can swap it or not. I have never tried. Sorry I cant be more help

You may be able to take that side off of the diff, and put the side from a manual unit in its place.

so on mine the part in green and red is not there and the blue extends where the green is and bolts to where the arrow is pointing. sorry for the mangled picture :p

if i unbolt the pieces at the blue arrow do you know if anything is going to fall out of place that i need to watch for. i've never took a differential apart before, and should the two different diffs bolt together as long as the wholes are the same

It should bolt right up. There is an intermidiate shaft in there, and to separate, you might have to undo a snap ring. See if helps.

alright. what about the gears in each, i think the one in my truck now is 3.58 and the ones in the new diff are 4.10 and ill be switching my rear after thanksgiving break. but should that matter when just switching the side piece?

It shouldnt. You wont want to run 4x4 with non matching front and rear gears though...

ya i wouldn't be running it unless i got completly stuck in the snow or somthing but would take it out imediatly after getting unstuck. i should be able to make it home in 2 wheel drive but i'd like to have the front working as a plan B kind of thing :D
