I’ve searched around and can’t seem to find an answer. This might be a dumb idea or question, but would it be possible to flip the way the automatic shifts in S mode? Maybe with a ovtune? So instead of it shifting up when you press forward on the shifter, it would instead down shift and visa-versa.

I know it’s a little thing, but it’s always felt bass ackwards the way you shift in S in the Tacoma.

Most American-made cars with select shift autos are made this way. Yes, I know this is "backwards" from how they do it in other places like Europe. That said, I don't know of a way to flip it.

Volvo I used to drive was the same way, although they did their "S" mode much better where you could actually tell it to keep upshifting/downshifting without the computer double checking first to make sure that was okay. You could also start the car in any gear up to 3rd and it would actually start the car moving in 3rd and not just upshift from first until it got to 3rd. That was a fun car, but the manual is much better.

I have had the sport shifting option on a Mazda 3 and a Mitsubishi RVR before the Tacoma. I did prefer the Mazda and the Mitsubishi was opposite. Now with the Tacoma it is the same as the Mitsubishi so I am used to it.

I’m not sure if I’m reading it right but, do you think it’d be as easy as swapping the STFU and STFD?

I have been considering this for a while. I want the shifts to go with momentum.

Thank you for the diagram, I must say I'm not sure where the physical wires are located, what color they my be, and even how to properly interpret the diagram. I'm guessing its on the trans control switch?

If this turns out to be an easy mod it could be one of those amazing mods that everyone will do. I hope it works out as it will make the Taco much more fun to drive.
I'm still in the research phase. Again thanks for the diagram.

I had a little time today to do some digging/ testing. I found the T23 control switch, but I believe I found a small issue.

If I am reading the diagram correctly as I am looking at the connector it should be 1 through 5 from right to left just like in the diagram.
Unless I'm looking at this wrong my 1 and 5 colors are in the opposite spot. Pink in 1, Red in 5.
Let me know if I'm wrong. pics

As shown in the diagram, with my wiring colors listed.

Or should I be looking at the switch in this direction from the back with the wires coming in. wiring3.jpg

Is this the actual purpose though? I tried shifting like this just to see and it seems slow. I am under the impression it’s just used to tell the truck what gear to not go above, not really a way to shift as you want to

I'm betting it's like your last pic.

You can alway do a resistance test against 2-white from the shifter to find "up" and "down"
2-white to 3-green should be "up"
2-white to 1-red should be "down"

Last picture is correct 2 is E (ground wire) which is the white with black stripe wire. Now tell me where you guys get these color wiring diagrams, the ones I see in the 2016 service manual pdf I have are black and white.

There’s a thread in the forum that discusses S mode (not “sport” mode) extensively.
