This, no such beast as 100% synthetic anyhow, only reason I use Mobil 1 is it is readily available and I use it in the R1 also.
Easier to have only one type of oil for all the machines.

Quantities depend on what you want to do. Flush vs drain and fill. Goto “Mods & Tutorials”, these procedures are discussed in detail.

There is no such animal as 100% synthetic oil for motor vehicles. ALL 100% synthetic oils are still base stocks of dead Dino grease.

What makes a synthetic is ESTERS and other additives to highly refined base stock.

Even your precious AMS oil is base stock oil.
Full synthetic is a marketing gimmick and the stuff is no better than standard oil unless you live in Alaska.

Mobil 1 is one of many FULL SYNTHETIC oils.

https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/basestocks/products If you review the basestocks used for the oil it becomes easier to understand.

    https://www.exxonmobilchemical.com/...hetic-base-stocks/synovation-series#synvideo1

I use full synthetic oils in just about every engine I have. I have been doing that for more than 16 years. I also use full synthetics in the rear differentials. The exception is the 2004 Camry I picked up with 129000 miles. That car gets a synthetic blend at this time.

Every vehicle I have gets 10,000 mile oil change intervals or 1 year. My 3 trucks have had this interval from brand new. They have all had Mobil 1 since the factory fill was dumped at 2000 miles or less.

Full synthetic oil is a loose and unregulated term. While Mobil 1 is great oil, there are far more “synthetic” oils out there. Mobil 1 is a quality group 3 oil while there are higher quality ester based products on the market.

    OP:

But for use in a Tacoma, it’s hardly going to matter much. I ran cheap Walmart Supertech Synthetic in both my 1st and 2nd gen. 1st gen has 305k miles and the 2nd gen had 257k miles, both with zero engine issues. Keep proper specs and amounts of fluids in the truck, and it’s going to take care of you.

The Amsoil website also has a good database that shows fluid amounts for your vehicle.

Full synthetic is applied only to the chemical additives. Base stocks are still petroleum, crude oil, natural gas, or even recycled oil.

There is NO such animal as synthetic motor oil for motor vehicles. Group 3 and group 4 oils are still petroleum refined to a high standard then mixed and combined with whatever special stuff the company wants.

Even tool making uses a “synthetic” oil like A-6 cutting oil, still has petroleum in it.

I would say that dot 5 brake fluid is synthetic, but it is silicone based and I’m pretty sure it has some petroleum in it.

    Don’t believe the marketing hype.

Research is your friend. Review the information provided its there. https://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/lubrication-glossary.php

    2. Synthetic oils surpass their mineral counterparts in lubrication, engine cleanliness and heat dissipation
Synthetic oils are formulated from synthetic base stocks so their properties are exactly as they were designed in the lab. Mineral oils are formulated from mineral base stocks (refined crude oil), which are then enhanced with additives to improve their preexisting, subpar properties. Even though additives can significantly improve their properties, mineral oils can never achieve the same quality as synthetic oils

Another thing to remember here is 0w-20 is a synthetic oil. You have different variation of basestocks 1-3 is a mineral base. Synthetic is a whole different formulation. It gets complicated. This may help also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum

    https://mobiloil.com/en/article/car-maintenance/learn-about-motor-oil-facts/types-of-synthetic-oil

"Where traditional mineral or conventional use refined crude oil (that stuff you find in the ground), synthetic oils consist of chemical compounds that are artificially made by breaking down and then rebuilding petroleum molecules. The end result is an oil containing specific molecules that are tailored to provide optimal lubrication properties."............

The bottom line is you can research this as the information is endless. You can also view used oil analysis with the specific oils and determine if that is what you want to use. Most people don't hold onto their vehicles and researching oils for 16 years is probably of no benefit. However, if you are like me and hold onto them for a long, long time it may be of interest for you. Best of luck.
