I change mine at the regular intervals (5,000 miles). The oil is pretty 'dark' (dirty) after that amount of time. I'm more than happy spending the money for peace of mind.

If you want to go longer - you could have an oil analysis done that'll let you know the condition of the oil. I've never done that..... I just change it regularly.

That's pretty much my attitude in using Mobil 1 for about 24 years now.

I don't use it because I plan to go longer between oil changes; I use it so I'll have some additional margin of protection if I have to go longer. In other words - I tend to consider it a sort of 'insurance'.

I change it out at 5000 miles, but I won't worry if I go to 6000.

That's how I see it, though I use PP. I'm about 700 miles over my 5000 mile interval at the moment (was sick most of the month and out of town) but will be changing it tomorrow. I don't worry one bit about being over the interval.

5000 miles is 8000 km. I'm doing a bit of research for my own knowledge and testing my oil just to see how it looks. Mobil 1 now, and I'm going to run Pennzoil syn next and maybe Valvoline after, just to see the difference in the oils in my engine. Extended change intervals is what I plan on doing after finding the right oil! Filter change around 5000mi, and full oil change at maybe 10,000mi or so.

I've been stupid and would change out my Pennzoil synthetic every 3,000 miles or so but I am going to start changing it around 5,000 like everyone else! Save me some money in the process as well! ;)
