The iterative process of design, print, test fit, wash, rinse, and repeat continues:

Note: the above photo is of parts that didn't work. Hours spent spend in the design process...

Ultimately, this process reaches an asymptote:

    Which we call version 2.0

Based on research of common center console items I added:
    Lip balm
    Knife
    Pepper spray

There is still plenty of room for a few other items and the comb could be turned 90 degrees to slide between the rails.

And room to slide a paper pad next to the Husky storage bins

I guess now I realize what I'm trying to build is the "Swiss Army Knife" of center consoles...

Great idea! Any plans to sell them in the future or the 3d/STL file so I can print my own?

I need to do a shakedown (literally) but I was thinking to make the clips and LED light an add-on option for the tray. The LED light needs better mounts (it is just duct tape now). I'm going to spend the next week camping in the Mojave Desert, so I'll see how well it works. I'm still looking for ideas for things to mount. Anything cylindrical is super easy. Rectangles are not to bad either.

Just ran across this thread…. Cool to see you doing this!
I had this very idea a few years ago and approached MESO about making one as a blow-mould replacement for the stock insert (since it’s just screws and hardly anyone has the original tailgate key that slot-tab was for). He didn’t pursue or at least never saw a prototype. I always liked Honda’s armrest, tray, bin design and felt Toyota missed it with that useless spot. Count me intrigued…

Sorry, the tray isn't big enough for your Glock 19 and the console lid spring wouldn't handle the weight either.

I just ordered this off Etsy after reading this thread. One accessory I plan to add is a “belt mount” so I can easily attach my Kershaw knife and Maglite, both of which are designed to slip over a belt.

If all goes well, I plan to remove the little organizer tray which is a pain to remove when driving. Your tray will make the Tacoma very similar to our JL Wrangler which has a dual level center console.
