I figured it was a good attention getting title.
So my trouble is my lug nuts do not fit my lug wrench, the wrench is too small. I was told by a friend that is is not the wrench its the lug themselves. It is because the lugs had swollen over the past few years since my last tire change. I have had the tires rotated fever other oil change, so I didn’t know there was an issue. My questions are, first is this a well-known issue? And two what are the best replacement lugs for stock factory rims.

Thank you all in advance for your help

    Tack

Is there any possibility you have the wrong size lug wrench?

And why does your friend think the lugs have swollen?

Stock Tacoma nuts have a SS sheathing (I don’t know if its all, some, or most). It can get distorted.

I have since asked around and the stealership said that it happens. Between the SS coat and the nut rusts and swells the nut and the lug wrench dosent fit. It was a big suprise to me when I got a flat and couldn't get the lug wrench to fit. Now I don't know what to do, Is there a good set of lugs to get to replace them?

You can get half mil sockets as a temporary solution or as you ascertained replacement lugs.

    Depends on your wheel type.

Gorilla lug nuts are decent and what I have on my truck but I do not jave stock wheels. I have Extended seat thread lug nuts and SCS wheels.

Today I learned that tacomas did use SS seathing on lug nuts. Ive only seen it on fords and dodges. Lovely

13th Gen F150s were notorious for lug nut swelling. It's one of the first things I changed out on my previous F150. The stock ones are a 2 piece design and would swell then break off when loosening the lug nut. It would probably be a good investment in swapping out your Taco's lugs for some 1 piece Gorilla lug nuts.

This more commonly happens in salt country.

When was the last time you examined / treated your frame?

Over time the cheap lug nuts with a thin sheet metal cover used by most manufacturers get out of shape and will no longer fit. You can force a socket one size smaller over the lug nut to get it off once, but once doing that it can't be reused. I'm lucky that the ones on my 2007 Tacoma still work, but I had to buy 24 new lug nuts for my 2014 150 several years ago.

The original Lugnuts that came with Toyota had a chrome tannish type of material over the log not know what time those will not fit a log not anymore this is telling you it’s time to go out and buy a brand new set

Read post 8 carefully. I'd be calling a dealer and setting up an inspection/preventative treatment, as you are rapidly approaching the 12 year from first date of in service window.

There are hundreds of other threads of a similar nature here too, should you wish to search for others.

    Good luck!

Ok thank you all for your help. I have the original rims on the truck, so I need to find the correct gorilla lugs for them. Do any of you know if the original equipment are “narrow spindle?” Or does anyone have a link they can post to get the right size lugs. Thank you all again

I occasionally squirt a shot of WD-40 in my nuts. This will keep out the moisture and keep them from swelling in their skin (stainless steel). I've been putting WD-40 on my nuts for years.

This happened to mine after 11 years recently. I just replaced them with solid ones.
