Yeah, there were some spots that I missed but after sanding the primer, they started to show so I hit it with a lower grit sand paper.

I used all duplicolor products (their perfect match system) cause I read that using other brands of clear can mess with the color in the end...at least for white.

I sanded with 1k grit first, but it was taking a while and after the first two coats of primer, I sand again and in some places the primer just came right off (little to no pressure when sanding). So, here's what I did:

    1. Sand with 400 grit to remove the chrome
    2. Sand with 600 grit to prep for primer
    3. Laid down about 3 coats of primer
    4. Used an 800 grit scuff pad to prep for paint
    5. Laid down about 3 coats of paint
    6. Finished with 3-4 coats of clear (I thought I laid down a heavy coat for the last one but it could use a little more)

I'm pretty sure I'll have to redo it at some point but I'm fairly happy with the outcome as far as the paint quality goes.

    ****EDIT****
In between dry times I was prepping/removing/installing my retrofit headlights. Otherwise I may have rushed even more.

With all that said, I still want to try using spray paint that is custom mixed for me. I had this done for my silver double cab and they mixed in the clear and a flex agent since I was going to repaint one of my fender flares. Never got around to that or color matching the grill.

@quetzal I just remembered, you can still get a factory color matched grill and corner lamps for your truck. Black, silver and red (possibly green and other colors?) all had the color keyed package as an option on our trucks.

Probably bailing on this and either leaving it as is (no flares with the holes exposed) or I may repaint and then reinstall the flares. The first set of retainer clips I bought were too small, then the second set were a tad too large.

Sucks man. I know others have done it, just don't know which clips they used.

I'm sure they're out there but I just don't care enough to find the right ones. Two tries was enough for me...haha. Maybe later after I get my other parts installed.

Got the TC spindle gussets welded on a few weeks ago (thanks to my friend @Ritchie and bro in law @nihkon). No pics since we were crunched for time. We were also able to hammer/bend my bumper brackets back into shape on my Shrockworks plate bumper. I just picked that up from getting re-powder coated and am planning to have it installed next Sunday.

Another update: it was about time to replace my 4 year old Duratracs but I kept going back and forth on whether to stick with 33" tires or go 35" on the F5 wheels (which would include all the work to clear the 35" and regear at the least). Since I haven't had the time to get out on the trail, I figured a set of "on" road wheels and tires would work for the time being:

    IMG_3935.jpg IMG_3920 (1).jpg

The current plan is to run two sets of wheels/tires. The Volks for everyday/light trail use and the F5's for tougher trails. I'm thinking of painting/pc'ing my F5 wheels in an army/olive drab green and may go up to 35" MT's on that set. Since 4 of the 5 F5 wheels have trail damage I may leave them as-is...but I really want green wheels.:broccoli:

Bumper has been repaired, sand blasted and powder coated...and was installed today!!! Thanks to @Ritchie and @nihkon for the help as always. Just going to dump all these pics here:

Welding on and grinding down the frame end inserts. These came out solid.

Really happy with the outcome. Just need to mount and wire up my Baja Designs fog lights and LED turn signals.

All three trucks with three different versions of Shrockworks bumpers.

Not yet...I'm thinking I can do a quick night run around Otay truck trail since it's nice and easy out there. I'll be able to aim the fog lights better too...just sort of threw them on.

    Dave,
That must help with the ride in the rear, huh?

Hey Mike. It really does. with everything loaded in the bed, it brought down the rear a bit too. So I have even less of a rake. Might be ready to get the shock tabs burned on...I'll shoot you a text soon!

How are things on your truck going? Get your bumps all figured out?
