    I run Rotella T6 in my '02 3.4l (and my wife's '18 CX-5).

I've heard good stuff Amazon's oil too.

I've checked out, I'm done on it. Might be safe now for everyone to prove their points with their anecdotal evidence

I keep dragging you back into it, so... :D

Not just the oil manufacturer tests, but most testing.

Here's where I'm coming from: I work with satellite based remote sensing that measures ground deformation. I work more on the applied sciences side, vs. the academic research side (I'm a nerd, just not a NERD). There are numerous academic papers out there that have been able to do all these advanced weather modeling techniques and statistical analysis that ends up increasing the accuracy of the data, albeit marginally - say, from ~15mm down to 5-10mm accuracy (near the theoretical limit). That sounds like a lot, but when your infrastructure doesn't see potential damage until the 30-60mm mark, it's not as meaningful.

Now, there are some areas where 5-10mm can make a huge difference, like areas near the coast (Huston, Chesapeake Bay, etc...) where even small amounts of ground elevation loss can put you under water, that's a big deal.. But for the most part, people just care if their roads are going to crack or if they have to re-engineer their aqueducts.

    See, there *I* go, lol...

I guess with all that testing, does it actually amount to a significant increase in practical knowledge? Or you you still just end up changing your oil at ~5-7k intervals anyway.

    I digress...

I hear you and agree.... To a point. I value data and truth way too much to ignore it, my man. I know you do as well. I value heavily that you can take numbers and terminology from your field of career and use it in a regular forum post to show an analogy with something unrelated. That means you freaking understand what you do and that's important. Now, I view the oil crap the same way you do your geology crap and I say the same at the end of my spiel as you do:
'But for the most part, people just care if their roads are going to crack or if they have to re-engineer their aqueducts'
People just want their engine to operate as it should and get them to their destination.
"I guess with all that testing, does it actually amount to a significant increase in practical knowledge?"
Ummm maybe, doesn't matter though to the masses, though it does to us:D I dunno if I'm even making sense. I'm trying to, promise:D

That's a high performing engine oil that tests very well. And the corresponding oil filter does as well.

I hope I don't sound like I'm disparaging all the testing you've done. That's not my intention.

I was mostly blabbering about the standards of peer review and who funds the research (when comparing my field with the oil industry for example).

(bolded) that's all I'm really getting at. We like to throw out all these facts and statistics, but in the end just change your oil every 5k and you're good. :D

What do you mean "my type"???

I'm in Sacramento. There had been talk of getting this group of central cali regulars to get these trucks of ours dirty. Now that it's snowing/raining, might need to wait a while for the trails to be driveable.

I'll be sure to change my oil right before we meetup. :D

I'm at 7k on my current mobil1 OCI(sue me:D)if my engine seizes up and fails I'll make sure to let everyone know. These Toyota engines are just too easy on the oil.
Oh Sacramento that's right, I remember now that it was in your post heading I had noticed before... If I get out there you gotta to show me some cool geology stuff:cool::D

No cool geology in Sacramento... Just some decent breweries, which for a geologist is just as important.

All the cool geology is down near Mammoth (Devil's postpile) or on the coast (bowling ball beach).

Take a trip through the Central and San Jaoquin valley, and I'll show you where the ground is sinking at a foot or more a year... (hint: just trace the proposed route of the high speed rail :frusty:)

That's crazy about the ground?! How do they ignore that????

Edit: sorry sorry I'm way off track. That's a topic for general thread, sowwy guys:oops:
