See, the manual is wrong. It shouldn't be that high on the dipstick. Go ask a real mechanic., not those idiots at the dealer.

He or she will tell you to the full mark, no more. I worked for Toyota for 7 years, never a problem.

If I overfilled it, then there would be a problem. Not only would the customer be mad, that's overfilled. That would be a liabilty.

It puts unneeded pressure on the seals. I don't care what the manual says. Maybe that's the maximum capacity.

Trust in your dipstick. Go to AutoZone & compare the lengths of the dipstick. You don't have to buy it, just compare.

Better yet, find someone with a similar Tacoma & compare dipsticks, lol.

A quart overfilled won't hurt it, it won't help either. Do what you want.

I was an ASE certified mechanic for over 40 years because I did things right. Not always by the book.

Mine might be 5 qts., yours might be 5.5 qts. Buy an extra quart, I don't care. I'm only trying to help you with experience.

I never give bad advice. If I don't know, I'll say so or say nothing at all.

I'd put 5 qts. in & go from there to the full mark.

Don’t have the manual but as i said i realized only synthetic is available(old news) new debate is manual says 6.2 quarts but some say only use 5.
Robnik says dealer will only fill to full mark (5quarts) and nothing more but my dealer put 6.2 in it and will only put what Toyota calls for 6.2
So are they overfilling or the is the dipstick wrong? Thats the topic

So why as i just posted the dealer putting and will only put 6.2? Are the dealerships doing it wrong. Not saying you are wrong just don’t know at this point
This is almost something that should be addressed by Toyota as some trucks are either running low or too high

At about 100K miles I switched to synthetic in my 2.7. No leaks except for the valve cover gasket that was leaking before the switch.

Go to a dealer or independent shop & ask what an experienced "technician" does.

You know what their answer will be. Not some newbie on the shop floor or some pencil pushing service manager.

It's not that big a deal. I wish you luck in your quest.

Have a great night guys, life is too short to waste on this nonsense :)

Well thats why im also asking on here. But the overfilling issue should be addressed by Toyota is all im sayin either change it on the manual or change out the dipstick at the dealership
You would think its in their best interest unless they just want to sell some more oil lol
Maybe Ill just split the difference at 5.5 :proposetoast:

Yes but we settled that seeing as only synthetic was ever used in the 3rd gen 2.7 then the topic went into how Toyota says the amount is 6.2 quarts according to the manual but apparently that is overfilling if you go by the dipstick and you should only fill to the full line on the dipstick which is 5 quarts.
And it went on lol is the dipstick wrong or is the manual wrong. The dealerships put in 6.2 quarts so if you want only 5 i guess you have to do it yourself. I say Toyota should address this issue and change the manual or the dipstick one of the two
But a response from the amount debate somehow ended up on this thread so it continued. Still has to do with the oil in the 2.7

you never will know unless you watch, but since they are getting paid they will say there was 6.2 to get more money.

This was part of the other conversation, you will know because when they put 6.2 in it is about 1 inch higher on the dipstick past the top dot(full mark) Just checked mine after the oil change from the dealership and its 1 inch higher. Again some say it should only go to the full line on the dipstick and if you only put 5 quarts in it only goes to the top dot (full mark).
So some people are either running with low oil or overfilled. You decide
