Completely disagree with this. I trust the spec in the manual more than the dipstick. Clearly the 2TR isn't picky about oil level, and running five to six quarts has proven completely acceptable with no ill effects either way, so why not run six quarts? A larger quantity of oil will run cooler and stay cleaner over a given oil change interval.

At the end of the day, each 2TR owner can decide what oil quantity they're comfortable with. Anything between five and six quarts isn't going to make any meaningful difference.

As already mentioned multiple times, don't overthink it.

And just to stir the pot even more, I run anything from 0W20 to 5W40, all full synthetic. Choose a weight based on your environment and driving habits.

You are stirring the pot now. i was thinking about a heavier oil being in a very hot climate. Cold front just came through got down into the 50’s and everyone is freezing lol

I'm on team dipstick. I have used 5.5qt for the last 5 oil changes. It's either at the full mark or slightly above. I'm not comfortable using 6.2qt and being 2+ inches over "full" but also not comfortable under-filling by 1.2qt, so I split the difference

Exactly, all you're doing is stirring pot. I looked it up in the the official service manual last night.

6.2 quarts is a completely dry engine. Everyone has a different engine, depends on how long you drain it, temperature, etc.

The oil pan might be designed differently from one year to the other. As I said mine came from the assembly plant in Texas at the full mark on the dipstick.

I guess they're wrong too. They just do it wrong all day. They don't know what they're doing, but your superior intellect knows better.

    Gimme a break.

OP, you could crack open the oil filter slightly to let some oil out until it gets to the full dot.

I'll be here if your engine blows up, lol.

Cheers buddy . Have a great weekend!

Actually, yeah, that's right. I have the health and longevity of my truck in mind when changing my oil. Toyota is focused on profits. I use six quarts of the oil weight I feel will best protect the engine until the next oil change. They use a lesser amount to save money. Half a quart saved on each truck on the assembly line means more money in their pocket. 0W20 is the best for fuel economy, not always the best for engine health. Toyota wants the truck to make it through the warranty period. I want mine to last as long as possible. So yeah, I do know better. ;)

I just want other 2TR owners to know it's completely safe, and technically recommended, to run six quarts of oil.

I never said it's not safe. So you're saying when you drain your oil, there's only 6.4 oz. of oil left your engine?

That's some good logic there. No wonder you only have 42 posts in 13 years. I don't argue with lunatics. Go troll somewhere else.

So far splitting the difference at 5.5 sounds the best lol weather the dealership will do that is another question

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. If it's a little above full mark, that's fine.

Maybe file a little mark where that is so you have a reference point.

Just to be sure you're not burning oil, losing it, etc.

BTW, welcome TacoWorld! Home of the big burrito

If you need anything, I usually hang out in the music thread.

And don't forget to fill the blinker fluid reservoir while you're at it. :D

Wow, I'm kind of surprised; given the whole, "Because Florida" thing, I figured it would be one of the most likely states to offer blinker fluid for sale.

Nah, we call it signal turn lubrication.

I hear up north, they call it non turn signal primer grease. Could be a local thing.

Have a great day guys. :)

5.5 quarts = full mark on the 2TR-FE dipstick. All Toyotas, including the vintage ones, do well on full synthetics. Use "High Mileage" full synthetics on vintage trucks if you are worried about leaks.

5.1 quarts ~~Skip to the end~~8 minute mark.

    I rest my case.

If I put the .1 qt. in, it takes it to about .5 mm above the full mark. Which I have done, if I have extra laying around.

    All 2.7L are slightly different. Consensus says between 5 - 5.5 quarts +/-. Not 6.2! That' for a V6.

Now to get that damn unicorn decal off! :D

Have a great Sunday morning guys & hope for peace.
