One. I used Royal Purple in my 2004 4 cylinder Tacoma for 160,000 miles. The engine ran lower rpm and acceleration was a bit faster. I put royal purple in my 2018 6 cylinder. Okay. One 4X4 shop owner says use Amsoil, it's good for 25,000 and change the filter every 10,000. Synthetic or not I question 25,000 miles and new filter at 10,000. Can I please have feedback on this.
Two. On the 2018 access cab Tacoma, the tail gate has that deep plastic surface. That surface is uncomfortable to sit on and to crawl over. Anyone have suggestion on how to cover that plastic surface with a smooth, more comfortable surface. Thanks.

If you really wanna know the truth, send your oil out to get analyzed and come to your own conclusions. Too many opinions on oil. Look around for tailgate reinforcements, should get the ball rolling for ya. Welcome to TW.

I run AMSOIL signature and change oil and filter every 10. Could I go longer? Sure. I put a lot of miles on my truck and this way I don’t worry about going a few thousand more if I’m traveling.

This is another option for the tailgate

I love their stuff but GD that's steep. Wish I knew someone with a mill, or CNC router even.

I have the Relentless tailgate reinforcement, its nice. Mobtown makes a nice one as well. No way I'd go 25,000 miles on the same oil, 10,000 max.

I use Toyota oil and filter, every 5000km. It's inexpensive, and it doesn't hurt to change your oil often.

    OME and worth every penny.
I know a gal that used a 50K OCI and didn't even worry about an analysis.

    Guess what happened? Nuttin'.

    1. Follow the manufacturers recommendations until you run out of warranty. Then you can push out if you test to confirm that it's ok to do so.
    2. Put a carpet on the tail gate.

No way I would run oil for 25k

I change synthetic every 5k for my peace of mind, even though it's theoretically good for 7.5k-10k+. Cheap maintenance over the life of the engine

That's the way to know. The only way. Let the peace of mind come from the actual lab results.

Amen. Boutique isn't bad. May even be better. But you'll never get ROI on the $ when using the same OCIs as the more budget friendly.

Nitro Gear and East Coast Gear Supply day that Royal Purple is one of the worst gear oils they have ever used...not sure if that quality issue transfers over to the engine oil.

Most shops say Lucas is the best then Amsoil and then Mobile 1

My worry is the oil filter lasting 10k, don't want any bypass, so I change the filter every 5k.. but since it's the most messy part of the job, and while I am down there, might as well drain the oil and refill. I use cheap synthetic and cheap Toyota OEM filter.

Truth. Send a sample to Blackstone labs at 10k miles and they will tell you if it's used up or not.
