That is why I asked earlier if it was Scwhartz. I had a similar experience with Scwhartz several years ago with a 4Runner. Tech stripped 3 bolts in skid plate. Never went back. Just did it myself. On our Rav4 we bought it from, and used Newark Toyota World. They always did a real good job and once the free changes ran out and I started doing that car myself there were no issues.
I got my 21 ORDC from Scwhartz and I am hesitant to use them for the 10,000 free change and check. I did the first change an check myself but I need to do an update to get my Crawl Control working properly. Might just use Newark again for that. Scwhartz is only couple miles from me but not sure I trust them. Sounds like Milford Hertrich is not much better.

I may have seen your 21 ORDC on display at Schwartz off Hwy 13.
I plan on keeping my Sport for a long time so oil changes will be done by me and scrutinized during the two year maintenance plan.

It's stories like this that make me question if I even want to use the dealership for the free two years of service. Oil change are simple and the peace of mind knowing that it's done right. Plus the hassle of going to the dealership and waiting for the truck to be completed.

Do you have any data to support the claim that cars don't last long?

When I see what people are paying for a high mileage Toyota, I get the impression that they do last..... also a quick search reveals vehicle longevity is getting better.

So, I just want to know why are our impressions different?

Do you not want to be convinced or something?

Yet you trust them enough to buy a $40,000 truck that will safely transport you for 100s of thousands of miles? o_O

Oh no, they can last and last...but with much more complex issues. Some do better than others but for the most part manufacturers of vehicles are in business to make money...and it's not just vehicles, everything else too...

A business isn't in business very long if it isn't making money. That is partially why Pontiac, Oldsmobile, AMC and others don't exist anymore.

Yes, vehicles have become more complex with all the electronics. Generally, it is not the mechanicals causing problems.

The KISS principle has long vanished.

you know.....its really easy to pin the blame on engineers.

Although, most people do not understand that engineers design based on criteria established and mandated by other departments, such as Marketing, Finance, Legal and others. These criteria are constraints that the engineer must balance and comply.

Engineers do not have an open hand on design.

I see you guys are downstate a little, but I had issues with both Price and Newark. Neither one would actually check my atf level even though I had the symptoms. Both said there are no trouble codes, so it must be fine. Probably too far for you, but Team in Glen Mills PA did not hesitate to actually check it, and surprise, 2 quarts low. I go to them for any warranty work now.

Maybe I failed Logic School, but if the oil is within expected specs at 10k with fancy tests, why would it be bad at 5k? I suppose it’s possible that there’s a ton of shit in there at 5k that magically disappears by the time we get the 10k results…but then where does it go? Not following. Why would the oil literally be a non sequitur?

Meh...$25 every 5,000 miles is a very cheap price to pay to have fresh oil in my truck. A lot of people waste a lot more than that buying Starbucks over that same period of time. I'd rather invest it in my truck. Just my opinion. Your truck, do what you like.

If you’re driving 90 miles Rt you might as well change it yourself. That’s quite a treck for an oil change

People change their oil at 5K because it is cheap, easy to do and gives them peace of mind. I'm sure if it was a $500 job people would be a lot more reluctant to do it. Don't hear too much about changing brake fluids, gear/trans oils, filters and such at 1/2 recommended intervals.

Not true. 10k is only for specific conditions. If you do a lot of freeway driving and let your engine warm up properly consistently, you can prob do 10k safely. If you do lots of stop and go driving, idle your engine a lot and drive only a mile or 2 to go to work and back. You will need to change your oil more frequently.

Hey man, I apologize. I just didn’t/don’t understand your concerns. I didn’t mean for you to get so upset about it.

I normally change at 7k miles, and the oil is very dirty at that point. IMO, waiting for 10k miles would be asinine.

Dirty? Maybe look into better filters. Air & oil. It shouldn't be dirty.

oil color really isn't a good indicator of longevity. some engines will make the oil look black after a few hundred miles.
