50k and never changed the oil lol I don’t believe that. His engine must have sludge everywhere and burning oil like crazy. Piston rings are prob gunked up and the filter is prob clogged.

I actually had a guy I worked with that bought a new F150 , this is back in around 2006 , I think it was a round a 5 liter back than. He did not change the oil ever . The truck had I think about 55K miles .At that time I worked for United rentals and we had a mechanic shop . He was complaining about a noise in the engine , which ended up being a crank bearing. But when we pulled the valve covers off it looked like a bomb went off under the cover . The entire top half had a good two inches of hardened muck and jelly black sludge . It’s a wonder it even ran as long as it did . Insane … what a dummy

Every 3000. I never miss it. Was using Mobil 1 but recently switched over to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Oil changes are cheap and I want my truck to be a 500k truck if I can.

Has anyone ever submitted a UOA that led them to an oil change interval of less than 10k on one of these engines?

10k is plenty fine. People are just stuck in an old school mindset. The whole point of synthetic is that it lasts longer and prevents wear better. What's the point in using it if you're going to dump it at dino oil intervals? You are missing the whole purpose.

Personally I think 5000 is really the max. Some people are just lazy or too cheap to change their oil. No offense to anyone here but there's literally no reason not to.

How stupid does someone have to be to never change the oil on a brand new truck. Boggles my mind

i buy the stuff at 2500-3500 mi.
i start really thinking about doing it around 3500-6500 mi.
i finally do it around 4500-7000 mi.

because i used to own chryslers with hydraulic lifter valves that are well known to plug up and cause lifter tick issues. fixed 2 separate motors just by going from the official 5k change schedule to a 3k change schedule.

That’s true as well! The more oil you have, the more diluted the pollutants will be in the big picture!

Not another oil change question, there should be a search on TW about these kind of questions.

maybe when someone posts these threads, it is automatically locked and people have 24 hours to vote on whether or not to keep it open. If the thread is voted down, the poster gets banned.

just follow what toyota and nearly every other manufacturer recommends, 5K or 10K mile OCI depending on use. if you are a tweener, split the difference. pretty simple, really.

i consistently fall into the 5K category, and when i drain the oil, it is dark in color and from the appearance seems like it should be changed. i realize some say that the color alone is not an indication the oil needs to be changed.

    I have a couple questions
    • How many months was that oil in your vehicle
    • What temperature range was it in where you live for the time it was run. average high/low weather temp

Running oil samples is really the only objective way here. It would be good to get multiple samples from a few different vehicles especially ones from hot summer and very cold winters. With your "clean" 10k sample, and the 20k miles oils now available, I wonder how far past 10k miles the oil would come back safe to run.

Why don't the guys that hate oil threads just not click on them? It's the same on every forum I've ever been on. OMG, not another oil thread! If you hate them that much, just move on to a thread that interests you. Problem solved.
