my 2011 AC 4wd came with synthetic 0-20w and requires change every 5k. So for the first two years oil changes are free (synthetic)

Aren't all 0w-20 and 5w-20 oils synthetic? I don't think those grades are available as dino oil.

Look through your toyota care package, I got one with a card and 2 key chain tags. It specifies on there that the oil is 0w-20 Synthetic. This is on a 2011 I4 DC. I would suggest you look through your package.

That seems to dispel the idea that you shouldn't break in an engine with synthetic because it's "too slippery" and the rings won't seat properly. Maybe that was hearsay all along.

It's unclear whether synthetics actually reduce friction that much, or just last longer before the base and additives break down. I do know they keep the engine cleaner inside.
