If you want a smart answer click over to BITOG and look up the VOA (virgin oil analysis) for Royal Purple.

If you're OK with opinions: I'm sure it has a good additive package and, for that kind of money, it should have a lot of Group V (ester) oil in it but I doubt anyone knows for a certainty how much.

If you ain't gonna do an extended OCI, though, that really good addy pack and grp V grade stability will benefit very little over other good synthetic oil or, for that matter, a good mineral if changes are at 3-5K intervals.

I did once...to a 94 Mitsu with about 136K on it. Didn't kill the motor.

What makes you think you need it?

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Just thought I would pass this on , the other day I watched a oil add for what I think was Pennzoil, it showed them putting it in a white Ferrari, giving the impression (at least to me) that Ferrari uses Pennzoil from the factory. Which is doubtful, I just wonder what Ferrari has to say about that.

Found on BITOG: "Well, lets see. Ferrari is factory filled with Shell Helix Ultra in Italy. You cannot buy Shell Helix Ultra in North America. The Pennzoil Ultra comes in 5W-40 and 10W-60, the Ultra is made by Shell. Does not seem to hard to figure this out."

My guess is Ferrari wouldn't have much to say about it...

Whatever you're doin you're doin it right so I don't think there's any reason to throw it a change-up. Just keep puttin' quality oil in on a reasonable OCI.

There is no magic in a bottle, it just doesn't exist.

Yea I'm def gonna keep doing what I'm doing, just doing some research. I'm currently using Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic, considering using Mobile 1 high mileage.

Yes I am very familiar with Shell/Ferrari connection, particularly in the F1 arena, thanks for the info.

Next time I visit our local Ferrari dealership here in Norwood, Ma.,(to drool) I will ask the service desk what they use.
Incidently, last year the same dealership had a delivery of a new Ferrari and it was up on the upper deck of the carrier truck and somehow it rolled off and landed with its rear wheels on the ground and the front wheels still on the top section of the two level carrier.
The dealer tried to pull a couple of pickups around it, to block the view but a local TV helicopter got wind of it and took some great pictures of it.
No doubt the delivery carrier insurance premium to a huge hit, on that one.
The dealership, by the way, is a wonderful place to visit if you are a car lover, pictures of some of the great Ferrari drivers, past and present and the very male automotive theme is even in the men's rest room.

I wonder of Ferrari scrapped the car? Assuming damage was more than just cosmetic...

Lots of different ones...depends on the kind of driving they will be doing. Standard 'street' fill is one type/grade and running laps at a track (hey, if I could afford that much car I know I'd want to stretch it's legs without going to jail) another type/grade.

Well I can tell you it had some major damage, as I worked in a body shop for25yrs. When it landed (it was a mid-engine model) it must have done some serious damage to the rear end, trans and motor, along with some obvious body damage. The top rack was 10ft off the pavement when it fell/rolled off and strangely enough when they showed the video of it taken by the TV helicopter, the windshield wipers seemed to be on, so one would presume the key was on???

I am sure the carrier assumed the insurance loss, as for the dealership to sign off on receiving the car, they would surely inspect all delivery's and it may have been shipped back to Modena, as I don't think Ferrari would allowed a car of that status to be "repaired" and put back on the road, IMHO.

That's kinda what I thought: I was at a scrap yard trying to sell some old rotors and the guy told me about scrapping a brand-new BMW that fell off a carrier. He said it was a shame as the damage looked very slight to him.

He didn't know the exact model but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a 3 series because a BMW rep came to witness and take pictures of it going in...and the scrap metal shards coming out. They wanted to be positive no parts were removed by yard guys and sold.

Yes they do that, as I can tell you the auto business is full of cut throats and people looking to make a extra dollar.

With a $150K+ car, I am willing to bet that it got shipped right back to Italy under some arrangement with the insurance company.

    Interesting situation , for sure.
