Ya... Out of warranty, I'd go 7500 if it weren't for the maintenance light not being adjustable.

Extended drain intervals has always been the push in synthetic marketing because it saves product and takes some of the pain out of the bite of spending $6+ for a quart of oil.

But that is only one benefit of synthetic.
I'd still run full synthetic even if my warranty required oil changes every 3000 miles.

My 07 with 130k: I ran Amsoil for a couple years and sent a sample to Blackstone that I'd run 7k iirc and report said safe to push to 8500 FWIW....I got tired of hassling with ordering it and went back to Mobil1.

mobil 1 5-30 since I hit 10k. have progressively put more miles on the oil in between intervals. Have gone from 4k,5k,5.5k,6k,8k,10k at the last change. oil still looks good.

But for the past 3 oil changes I used the mobil 1 15,000 mile rated synthetic, don't know if there is really a difference, but it is roughly 3-5 dollars more for 5 quart jug, plus a few bucks extra for the individual quart I need to get the 5.5.

    Just getting started.
AMSOIL but used Mobile1 in my old 02 Ford explorer and had 10 years and the engine still ran like the day I got it.

Been using that stuff for years....works like a charm for me. Called up Mobil and they stated that it is warrantied to last for that long, just keep my receipts and upc labels.

As far as filters go I constantly look at their filtration rates. Some are good, while others are flat outstanding. I haven't had to change my oil yet, but when I go shopping for the filter I always check filtration rates. The best I have gotten so far on a filter was Pureone Gold with 99%.

I use Mobil 1 EP 5W30 (EP=Extended Protection), and have been using it since the day the truck was purchased new (now over 295k). I typically go 10k miles between changes and sometime will go 12-15k between changes with oversize Mobil 1 M1-209 filter. Oil looks good at change. Runs like new.

Mobil also states that if your vehicle is under factory warranty, that you should change based on that schedule.

If you get sludge or some other oil-related failure during warranty, Mobil will not "have your back"

I've been running Mobil 1 for about 10 years now. I was sold on it when a mechanic explained its "cold pour" properties to me when I lived in Fairbanks, AK. I've always been a 3,000 mile oil change guy, but once I bought my current '06 Tacoma I switched to 5,000 mile intervals (per the owner's manual) with the Mobil 1. However, I don't put many miles on my truck in a year (was under 5,000 in 2010 and just under 6,000 in 2011).

My question: What's a safe amount of TIME to keep the same oil in my engine? I may not drive 5,000 in a year, so that means my oil change intervals are sometimes beyond a year. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks!

I think at least a half general consensus is that dino oil is good for ~ 6 months, syn ~ a year

the only sure way is to get a OA done on your vehicle

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is rated for 15k or 1 year whichever comes first!

I have 55,414 miles on my 05. Always had the oil change at the stealership with castrol syn blend. I would like to do oil changes my self now and wanting to switch to mobil 1 fully synthethic. With how old my truck is and with the miles which oil grade should I use.

    55k?

    It's not even broken in.
Stick with 5w30 or 0w20... whatever is recommended in your owner's manual.

Stick with that grade for the next 200k or so.

Use to use Mobil 1 but they arent what they use to be. I got into using Rotella T since its Jaso certified for a motorcycle clutch, now i just use it for everything. Its great oil thats actually affordable. Walmart usually has it the lowest. Its diesel rated but amazing for any engine. T5 is their semi synthetic, T6 is their full.

I switched from regular oil to Mobil 1 at 3K and now pay extra at the dealership for M1 at the 5k service intervals. I still get the complimentary free service but I have to pay full price for oil.
