Royal Purple all the way, when I die, I will be preserved in a Royal Purple solution. I've been using Royal Purple for 15 years in motorcycles, cars and trucks, from engine oil to transmission fluid. Brings life back to beaters and keeps my equiptment is the best condition possible.

    That's funny.

In my motorcycle it didn't do any better than Castrol GTX non-synthetic.

Toyota Owners Manual says to use 0W-20 (Conventional) and change it every 5,000 miles. You can use 5W-20, as long as the next change uses 0W-20. Toyota will put full synthetic in, if customer requests. This will NOT void the warranty as long as you continue to change it every 5,000 miles. Most synthetic brands say you can go double the mileage between changes. But Toyota says that will void the warranty by not changing the recommended 5,000 miles. The only benefits you will get with the full synthetic is better wear, therefore longer engine life and better fuel mileage.

Can you post a copy/image of that? It certainly does not say that in my manual.

"As long as the next change uses" WTF? That's completely pulled out of thin air.

    0w20 conventional does not exist.
0w20 is only available as synthetic.
    Factory non-synthetic fill is 5w20.

See the attachment to see what Toyota REALLY says.

Since my truck has 88K miles on it I will be using Mobil 1 "High Mileage" 5w-30 (recommended for vehicles above 75k miles) for its next oil changes. The previous owner changed the oil every 5k miles as the dealer records show. It came with a Toyota oil filter from the dealer's last change and I assume conventional oil. I prefer to run Mobil 1 in all my engines, including my backup genset. I do run Rotella T in my Kubota tractor and will probably use it in my two older Onan gensets.

Valvoline synthetic is a Group-III mineral oil base.
We can thank Castrol and a jury for this.

Mobil was one of only a couple of producers of Group-IV synthetic base stocks (Amsoil uses Mobil base stocks.)
Castrol began producing their own Group-III mineral ("dino") base stocks and marketing it as "Syntech synthetic".
Mobil filed a lawsuit and lost.

Castrol's expert witnesses were able to convince the jury that the processes used to convert conventional crude oil into Group-III base stocks results in a product that is molecularly identical to Mobil's Group-IV synthetic base stocks.

Castrol was awarded the right to use "synthetic" as a descriptor for their oil, and shortly after, Valvoline, Rotella, and a number of other Group-III products began appearing on the market.

However, to remain competitive, Mobil began using some Group-III base stocks in it's synthetic products. How much is proprietary, but there are very few purely Group-IV synthetic products available today sold as motor oil for automobiles.
Mobil-1 and Amsoil motorcycle oils are still solid G5 products, and they cost double what automobile oil costs.
    That's awesome.
7k intervals, 300k, and no major work... just wheel bearings, diff, and electrical.

Now many of those repairs were related to off-road use, or use in a harsher climate? IOTW, translate your experience to a 5-lug commuter vehicle in non-coastal SoCal or southern AZ.

Dang. So does that mean the Mobil 1 5W-30 I've been using for 10 years (first in my '02 and now in my '06) isn't truly a full synthetic?

It's still one of the best products that you can buy.
It is not a synthetic/conventional blend... it meets the legal definition of "full synthetic". The conventional components have indeed been molecularly altered.

i just use the 0w20 synthetic that the ownersmanual calls for on my 2012 4cyl.

i am guessing toyota has their own "house brand" of synthetic?

toyotacare owes me 4 more changes, then its on me . stealership's normal charge for it is around $78 i think.

This may have been true years ago, but is outdated information. Where are you getting your information from?

They get a small portion of base stock from Mobil, but all of the additive packages that Amsoil uses are proprietary blends dependent on the use of the lubricant.

I'm a die hard Amsoil guy. Not just because I sell it, but because I can back my decision and experience up with oil analysis and test data.

I run it in the FJ in the engine and all the gearboxes. I run it in all the rest of my vehicles as well.

I don't really like this guys sales approach, but he has a lot of good data:
    http://www.ultimatesyntheticoil.com/Scamsoil_Skeptics.htm

Not saying there aren't other great oils on the market, but for every good oil, there are as many handing out false, misleading and just plain untrue information about it.

I have been using Mobil1 for the past several years. I used it in my 06 tacoma with the 2.7L and I'm also using in my 07 tacoma 4.0 now. I noticed that it makes the engine run cooler. Cooler engine = more efficient and longer oil life.

Good move! Don't forget to get the EA oil filter to go with that oil!
