been putting Mobil 1 in my 99 4runner V6 since 1998, and today it still
exceeds MPG estimates when I drive like a granny. change it every 7500/12000 miles...

210,000 miles later...still runs like new. stuff works. lots of different oil works too,
but I will stick with the easy button which is mobil 1

    ---
will be buying a 2013 Taco AC 4x4 V6 in 4 weeks and it'll get the same treatment.

I'm a new owner of a used taco coming up on 100,000 soon. Purchased it with 90 plus, the previous owner changed every 3000 so I'm assuming he used dino lube. Could I start using synthetic? Will I see any benefit? Such as extended engine life?

You can use whatever brand you want... Just meet OEM weight req's.

No real way to tell, very few people drive a car till the engine wears out anyways

Amsoil 5-30. I change at 10k miles instead of the recommended 20K.
I don't have to go to the store. It is delivered to my house. Just join as a preferred member. It's cheaper than M1.
    Just sayin'...

Do a little more research and you'll see that 20k intervals are only "recommended" when you are running a bypass filtration system.

The TBN is getting quite low at 12k, but the quart added during the filter changes (both bypass and regular) at 10k replenish it.

A lot of Amsoil dealers are telling people a bunch of bullshit about 40k+ intervals. Amsoil has a great product, but their dealer network is not doing their customers any favors.

I bought my '06 brand new, ran the factory oil for 1000 miles, drained/replaced filter & oil w/ Castrol 10w-30, ran for 7K, (sufficient rings break-in) drained/replaced filter & oil w/ Amsoil 5w-30 from then on. I have been repeating this Amsoil filter/oil routine every 15K. I now have 96K on the motor and notice deposits in the crea:cool:vases of the oil cap. I think I'll change the oil& filter at 10K like you mentioned. 15K is too long on one oil change. The Nissan hemi head hardbody I owned awhile ago had to be topped off at 2K. I do not add one drop to this GR1 engine between oil changes...excellent oil mileage.

There are four different "Mobil-1" oils and they are all synthetic (Group-IV or a Group-III/IV blend).

    Mobil-1 is available in 0w20 through 15w50.
Mobil Super Synthetic (newer product) is available in 0w20 through 10w30.

Mobil Super (formerly Mobil-5000) is conventional, and is available in 5w20 through 10w40

Mobil-1 is claimed to be the "premium" product. It is the only Mobil product suitable for TurboDiesel applications.

Supposedly the Mobil-1 line, but there have been a lot of accusations that they've been blending some G-III base stocks ever since they lost the Castrol lawsuit in order to remain competitive.
My testing of the 15w50 seems to support those claims, at least comparing it's shear stability to the 20w50 M1 V-Twin and Amsoil MCV products.
The M1 15w50 did better than Royal Purple (which didn't do any better than Castrol GTX), but it didn't do anywhere near as well as the M1 V-Twin, which is a JASO-MA Group-IV product.

Short story, as the courts ruled, even Group-III base stocks are good. The product is molecularly altered so it is basically the same as a true synthetic.
Just stick with reasonable change intervals and it will do just fine. Many OTR truck fleets have been using Rotella-T 5w40 (Group-III) for many years.

Thinkin about switchin to synthetic in my 01' I've got 156k on it. Someone said I should start with one quart of synthetic mixed with 4 quarts of regular. And then each oil change move up another quart of synthetic. Should I do that or should I just straight up change to synthetic. Thanks

    No need.
    Just change it.

You can mix the oils, but it's just a waste of money because you don't get the full benefit of the synthetic.

Okay thanks. Someone told me it made their Tacoma leak oil. Is a wix synthetic oil filter good? Or should I use oem?

The OEM Denso/Toyota filter is one of the best you can get, and they're only about $4 in quantity. $90 shipped will get you enough filters for 100k.

IF synthetic "caused" any engine to leak oil, it's because the leaks were already there, but plugged with sludge that the synthetic cleaned out.

A lot of things you'll hear about synthetics originated in the 70s. Many were never true, many were true only for engines using older seals, and some were only true for the earlier formulations of synthetic oil.

This is the only oil I use and this goes for all fluids in my truck as well as my previous vehicles 1989 Toyota, 1987, 1995 Ford Bronco.
