I'm a royal purple guy myself. A boss of mine used to build rotary race engines and has been using it for years so when he gets it for his truck i take some of my wages in a few quarts.

I've used syn's forever in cars, trucks, motorcycles and RV's. I haven't put it in my 09 yet but will. I've used Redline, Amzoil and M1 - I'm not brand loyal and haven't noticed a difference in any of them. My question is has anyone tried running it in the differentials and transfer case? How about the auto trans? I suspect that you could run the syn's forever in those applications.

I have AMSOIL oils in both of my differentials. Had to use the additive for the rear as well. I plan on having the fluids tested at 100,000 to see how they are doing/whether or not I need to change them out or not. That will probably happen late summer to early fall this year.
So far my research has not turned up any aftermarket synthetic transmission fluid that meets the Toyota WS spec. I'm hoping AMSOIL's Universal ATF will soon meet it though.

Amsoil, my dad started using the stuff in ND in his FJ40 in 1980. Conventional grease would freeze in the steering knuckles, Amsoil didn't freeze and protected the metal at -40.

It goes into all the machinery I own, and works as advertised.

wait until the truck engine is broken in, there has to be friction to seat the pistons, syn is too slippery at this junction, wait until about 10k on the odometer, your gonna thank me

I have 34,500 miles on my 2005 4.0 4x4. I currently used noramal Pennzoil 5w/30 and was considering going to synthetic. Is it to late to do that and if I do, how often should I change the oil?

I use Amsoil for the engine, but I have used Mobil 1 and Royal Purple in the past.

I use Amsoil on my Tacoma, Jetta TDI, and RAV4 V6.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
I believe that the current ideas, is that at 34K it would be fine to start to use syn.
Anything towards 100K where the engine is quite "loose" it would not be recommended.
This comes from a automotive column, in my local paper and from a ASE Certfied mech and shop owner. He suggests 5-6K on oil changes using syn.
Overall he see's very little difference in engines as long as the oil is changed with regularity and using quality oil and filters.

It's no problem. Just make sure all the regular oil is completely drained. I've heard that you can switch from reg. to synth and back, just as long as the oil is completely drained. And, as others have said, oil changes are less frequent. I'm a bit lazy and do it (on my BMW) every 11k-12k (using Mobil 1 Extended Performance). BMW recommends oil change of 15K.

^Exactly why I started using it on my Altima and then on the Tacoma. Oil studies I had done on the Altima showed very good numbers.

I posted this somewhere else last week but the Wal-Mart near me is either going to stop selling RP or was clearing out for another reason. The RP was red tagged for $5.00 per quart. There was quite a bit of it. 5w-30. I'm not at the point of swapping and I really wasn't set on using RP anyway.

Not sure what the supply looks like now. Maybe I'll venture over there and see.

No one seems to understand that it doesn't matter even a little bit what oil you use, as long as you just change it on a consistent basis :\ Major name brands considered only, of course.
