IIRC, it used to be ~1/2qt with my 1st Gen. Thanks to the 2nd Gen design, very little new oil is required. I usually change the filter and let the dipstick be my guide.

I like synthetic due to it keeping it's true viscosity in winter.

with 325,000 miles (I bought it in the states) on my '89 pickup I'm inclined to run regular oil and Toyota oil filters just as I used to. Synthetic is better but regular never hurt the old '89. It purred like a kitten til it last ran. Box frame got it in the end. I wouldn't have bought another one til I saw the '12 I'm running now with the C channel. I had to have it to get back into Toyota pickups.

Isn't mobile 1 a Dino oil despite what it says on the box? Or at least partial? Thought I read that somewhere that it's not a true synthetic

Yes, M1 is not a true synthetic but acts like one. Bobistheoilguy website is the one true place get info on oil.
Amsoil and Redline are true synthetics, there are a number of them from Europe also.
I've used M1 5w-30 in my cars and trucks for years. No problems and no big expenses.
But (here it comes) other Mobile products like Transmission fluids did not work well.

I always use Quaker State Ultimate Durability or Pennzoil Platinum (both are made by Shell). 5qt jugs at Walmart are about $23.

I put regular 5w-30 from my job (lexus) bulk oil out the tanks and change every 3k. I have always changed all my cars every 3k. No problems. Truck runs good and strong with no problems. I mixed up the guns one time and put 0w-30. Engine made a bunch of weird noises. it did not like that oil.

I've been doing Mobil 1 Full Syth oil changes every 5k with Toyota OEM filters. Equates to about 2 changes/yr. I'm debating switching to Amsoil 1x year (10k) with OEM filter changes every 5k. I might do an oil analysis at my next 5k Mobil change, then switch. Do another analysis after the 10k Amsoil change and see how they compare.

for the guy that said he changes his oil once a year.... you do know oil breaks down on a molecular level overtime and when it does it doesn't protect your engine anymore.

    Boosted Money Pit....
I switched to Mobile one earlier this year. Just did second one a couple days ago. With OEM Filters. I noticed a smoother difference. I may start going to 3k - 4k oil changes. By time I hit 5k I can feel the truck lagging a bit.

It's all in your mind! If your truck is lagging it's not from needing an oil change at 5000 miles.

Toyota/ Lexus says regular 5k. I do synthetic 5k I even sometimes use the M1 extended 15k but change around 5k anyway I trust the oil more than the filter. If u change it at 3k regular would do.
I had an accord 91 that had been using regular Valvoline every 3K since new. At 250k I was changing the head cover gasket due to leak. After removing the cover the lifters and inside the head looked gold as new.

Don't trust those extended oil change intervals where I work we have an oil lab. Tests in a gas engine during normal driving with Mobil 1 synthetic broke down around 6k n 8k was useless. Conventional oils lasted about 3.5 k.

All synthetics start off as Dino oils...they just receive some addition processing and additives for better cold temperature performance, longer oil life span, better/faster parts coating...etc. that's it really. If you change oil every 3k, then dino is fine.

I just changed the oil in my 12 4.0 with M1 5w-30 for the second time. I used an oem filter this time for the change. Keeping my oil changes to every 5k miles.
