http://www.mobil.com/english-US/Passenger-Vehicle-Lube/pds/GLXXMobil-1-5W30 So much misinformation in this thread. I have studied oil analysis and oils in general for the better part of ten years. Depending on your category of service for your vehicle and confirmed by a oil analysis most vehicles should be able to extend intervals with full synthetics. I run three trucks with Mobil1 and change every 10,000 miles. All three trucks fit the normal service category. All three trucks had the factory fill removed at 3000 miles or less and Mobil1 put in.

The claim that Mobil1 isn't a full synthetic is not true. Read the link above and do your research. The claim that synthetics break down at a reduced rate is also false. That claim would only have a basis if the engine was running poorly. In that case extended intervals is a poor choice.

If you are overly worried about extending a oil interval you can use a regular oil with confidence, with a properly tuned engine, normal service, to 5000 miles. Frequent changes does nothing for the motor. In fact some studies have shown that increased wear metals appear with them.

“With its superior resistance to deterioration, AAA’s findings indicate that synthetic oil is particularly beneficial to newer vehicles with turbo-charged engines and for vehicles that frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic, tow heavy loads or operate in extreme hot or cold conditions.”
