is it normal for 4lo to make a loud metallic whirring?howling sound when you accelerate? it does not make any noise in 4hi....and it does not grind when switching between 4hi-4lo

Mine wines. Correct me if I'm wrong but the gears are straight cut, so they'll wine. I'm not sure how bad your noise or even what it sounds like.. So I couldn't tell you for sure!

Reverse is also straight cut. You could drain the fluid check for metal flakes?

Yeah it's likely just the straight cut gears. I love that sound.

100% normal in low range. It should sound like you are driving in reverse in a 5spd. No better sound than low range gears howling and rocks scraping going through a rock garden.

If it sounds the same as reverse does im fairly sure its just the nature of the beast, but maybe not in your case... the video will help for sure.
