switched out the oil in the t case for some Mobil 1. Now I see it seeping from the seam at where the 2 halves come together.

I'll put the regular dino gear oil in but if I have to fix this, how big a bastard will the job be? Thanks.

Did the leak start when you changed for this new brand of oil? If yes, the problem could be that this oil is finer than the one that was in before, allowing it to seep out of the Tcase.

If not, and if it keeps leaking where the two halves are coming together, I guess that means the gasket is bad. In this case, you'll have to remove the Tcase and open it up then put a new gasket in

Also, check for any loose bolts that holds the two halves together.

Yes it started after putting the full syn gear oil in. The gasket seems to be that pink rtv stuff.

If I split the t case where it's joined, should I expect any parts to fall out like washers or springs or is it pretty easy stuff?

yeah, the pink/red stuff is the gasket. It's some kind of silicone-like paste

I never had any trouble yet with my Tcase, so I cannot tell you what will happen as you open it. I don't think there is any washers or springs in between the two halves, but watch out, just in case. Put a pan or something below the Tcase to catch anything that would fall from it

you could still try to put conventional oil back in, since it wasn't leaking before, but usually, if synthetic causes a leak to appear, it's because the gasket is starting to get worn out.

Synthetic oil has smaller molecules than conventional oil, so there can be cracks in a gasket through which the conventional oil molecules can't seep through but synthetic can.

It is common to see leaks appear on older vehicles when switched to synthetic because of old and worn gaskets
