Runs like shit or shifts like shit, or both?

My first receipt from the dealer clearly states on it that they performed the T-SB-0077-16 ECU calibration, and the second receipt clearly shows that they performed the T-SB-0077-16 Rev 1 ECU calibration.

Took mine in for the 5K checkup and asked the TSB be applied. Service Report says the ECM Reprograming TSB was done and the truck is running better in Cruise at Houghway speed. little to no downshifting where before it would hunt for the right gear. Mileage seems to be improving as well so maybe it's actually working as it should.

Just when I thought I was getting used to mine...

Yesterday I'm cruising through downtown at about 20 mph. Decide to change lanes and notice someone coming up fast behind me so I pressed the accelerator a bit and the engine revs sky high and the truck goes no where! Feels like it was slipping. I wasn't even flooring it in the least bit but it sounded like I was.

    Very dangerous and unnerving.

Earlier this week, I did a u-turn and gunned it, truck took off like I've never felt it before, actually threw me into the back of my seat.

This is what I hate more than anything, inconsistency. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she sits on her ass and does nothing.

I've had both TSBs applied and overall, better than it was in the beginning, but this is the first time I've had the "slipping" issue.

Have you ever had the trans fluid level checked.

Limited wheels, extra rope hooks in bed.
That had to be in heavy traffic....My experience is there is no way to get that kind of mileage at that speed without some drafting help.

I'm not an expert but I am somewhat of a gas mileage nerd.

I had it checked at the first TSB visit. At least they say they did but I don't trust dealers in the least bit.

There's never really any traffic at all traveling east on Hwy 50 from Carson City NV to Silver Springs and turning right onto Alt Hwy 95 south to my house in Yerington NV, which I do every two weeks. Before having the Rev 1 update done a couple of weeks ago, I was getting 21 to 22+ mpg on the same stretch of road and at the same speeds.

Shift like shit. 4th to 5th gear shift within a second or two from each other. Very under power on 5th and 6th gear which cause truck to run like shit! Dealer won't check the transmission fluid because they said they have to find a probable cause.. "transmission shift and truck drives as its suppose to" therfore they won't considered checking.. They couldn't duplicate clucking noise from 2nd to 1st gear because it only happen sometime in the morning. Buzz feeling from steering wheel between 2000-2500 rpm is normal they say. Wtf!

Had my 10k Service done a Tustin Toyota on Tuesday this week.....I was pleasantly surprised as the Service Advisor actually wrote down everything I had issues with.....I asked they do the Rev 1 of the tranny TSB, check the fluttering fuel pump, check the photo cell on auto headlights, check the Nav screen blanking out, check the right temp knob because it was very hard to turn, squeaking in right speaker area, and seals on drivers door....They called out a she foreman to listen to the fuel pump.....he said Toyota was aware of it but changing it now would not make any difference because it will happen again...I requested they change it anyway..They had to order part, came in the next day...Also ordered the LCA plugs....there is a TSB against that too. as well as the fuel pump.

All in all I any very happy with the service there.....called me to tell me pump was in.....this service was day and night when compared to Temecula service and Escondido Service....I was actually treated like a special customer...

The results of the Rev 1 TSB for the tranny was immediately noticeable.....more low in power and not going into 3 or 4 gear by30 mph.....The truck has more get up and go from the stand still....I monitor mileage pretty closely.....Since the update, mileage seems to be a little better than the 21mpg before...At 70-75 I see constant 25-27mpg and in city it is 17-21...Cannot complain. I know drivers are different, but I am driving like I always do...I think the cruise control is worthless...still searches a littler and the mileage is all over the place....without it, I can see steady throttle control....Going up steep hills, only downshifts to 5th or 4th......and upshifts as I crest the hill top.....much better than before when it would downshift to 5, 4 and 3rd....

Overall.I am happy....lets see if it reverts back to the old condition....hoping the learning is more on freeway than in town

You need to call Toyota Corp like I did initially to complain about the terrible trans shifting as well as the possibility of low trans fluid, which I told them that many members on the Tacoma World forum have had with their 2016 Tacoma's. I also said that since Toyota removed the trans dip stick, I could no longer check the trans fluid level myself, and I told them point blank that they must be fully aware of complaints about the poor shifting and the possible low trans fluid level from the factory.

Within two hours of getting off the phone with Toyota Corp, The dealer I bought the truck from called me to schedule an appointment to bring in my truck to have these two issues resolved. The dealer I bought the truck from is great and they have taken care of both of the trans updates without any hassle from them.

So my advice to you is to start a case number with Toyota Corp, and find a new dealer if the your current one continues to drag their feet, and if they do you need to call back and complain to Toyota Corp.

When dealing with problems like this with companies, I find that it's a good idea to write up some simple talking points to keep me on track talking about all of the issues that I am not happy with and need resolved, and doing this makes you sounds like you've done your homework.

Done that! I now have two case with corp. Manager is looking at my case..

Off topic: Dealer is requesting for a dash replacement. Dealer said my dash is either misaligned and need to be replace due to the passenger speaker cover a pillar rattle. Again, Wtf.

Did TurnLeft actually type "dealer" and "not a bunch of morons" in the same sentence. That is funny I don't care who you are.

Is there a certain Manufacturer date, or VIN where they have done the TSBs during production? I have a 2017 build date 1/17.

Quite a few reports of this or similar. Can this be engine power retardation from the ABS/VSC? It only seems to happen during WOT panic acceleration.
