I'm talking a new transmission with different gearing and characteristics....same case and mounting holes and what not.

Edit: A "plug-n-play" transmission if possible.

I have a call with my case manager on Monday. Does anyone have any tips on what to say? What's the best outcome that someone has had (I.e. Funds towards different vehicle, warranty, etc.) and what do you attribute to getting that?

Thanks - ordered a ShiftSense Pro for the likely chance that my complaint goes nowhere.

Just remember, the case manager is not your friend. They are your opponent. Be persistent and maintain composure.

Yeah that's the plan. What was your outcome?

I'm really trying to get out from under it and into something else. A big ask but hopefully they'll work with me.

2017 ACC CAB TRD OFFROAD 4X4
Hi everyone. I just purchased new, a '17 TRD OR 4x4 acc. cab 10 days ago, the sticker on the B piller gives a born on date of 6/17. I now have put about 380 miles on it. ( It had 16 on it when I bought it).
The dealer I bought it from is 3 hours drive away from home, (They're the only one who had what I was looking for in a color I was ok with).
In searching for seat covers i came across this site and then this tread.

The only symptom I've experienced so far is: on the way home from the dealer, when going up a slight or small incline while holding my foot steady on the gas peddle, the truck would start slowing down some, yet stay in the same gear. I think that's normal. So I would apply a little more pressure to the peddle to get it back to speed, ( around 55mph), and it seemed to struggle so I would apply a little more pressure, (same thing), then a little more again. No speed increase was happening. It felt like it was bogging down a little as if it's in too high of a gear for the RPM's. So more pressure on the gas peddle then the truck would drop down into what felt like was 4th gear, engine revs up, truck speeds up and then I let off the peddle a little to come back down to 55 and hold it there and it does it again. This continued on the 3hr trip home. Sometimes it couldn't make up it's mind what gear it wanted to be in.
My first thoughts were " this doesn't feel right... It's like it's low on trans fluid." Went to check it when I got home... sealed unit!? wtf!

I haven't tried auto speed control yet. I don't seem to have the delay from P to R / D issue, and no hard shifts in the low range. After driving it for 10 days it feels more responsive tho it is all in town driving. So I'm going to drive it out to some open highway next week and see if it's any better.

Other than this, I like the truck.

That's pretty solid as I guess you can keep it worry free. As bad as I would like to dump it, I think there's got to be a solution coming soon. My big issue is I went to the dealer and they offered $26k. They wouldn't budge on it and basically said that in so cal they aren't selling as many/people are brining them back due to the issues and so they have a surplus. One look around the lot pretty much confirmed that. Maybe I'll try Carmax

5th gear is the wrong ratio, and the transmission strategy is poor. You will have to accept most of this, especially the poor choose in 5th gear ratio. You can try using "S" when going through the hills. Just keep current on your transmission software, and hope for some better code.

You may want to keep your truck. The market is getting saturated with trade ins. Just lean on corporate and they will likely find a way to satisfy (I mean pacify) you.

That's the conclusion I'm coming to. It's so depreciated right now that I'm upside down but hopefully in 4 to 5 years I can have some equity in it and get out of it then

In fairness, it is not a bad truck. I like mine. Though, Toyota dropped the ball on the transmission and the rear axle. They will be held accountable. The American people will push back.

Exactly. I got the ShiftSense coming Monday. If that does what everyone says it does then I'll be completely satisfied. Getting an extended warranty would be great though

For sure. Do you get any flaring between shifts. If so, try to rectify that before leaning on the shiftsence. That way you are not dealing with 2 gremlins at the same time. That can get confusing.

By flaring are you meaning hard shifts? My concerns are that 1st and 2nd are super rough and then it'll feel gutless as it shifts up. When I'm on the highway and punch it, there's a 1 second delay, it'll shift down but it's incredibly herky jerky

I concur with your experience. After the first 1000 miles, I really started to experience the drive-ability concerns, what a disappointment! Been back to the dealer multiple times for two transmission updates, low transmission fluid, H/P chirping fuel pump replacement, Radio program update, engine update and rear axle recall, all with less then 5000 miles and I was advised by the Tech, my truck is as good as it's going to be with the limited performance repair options provided from Toyota. I was fortunate to have reasonably good service department however, the dealers G/M was not very interested with assisting me to replace my 2016 either with a late 2017 Tacoma or 4 Runner unless I was willing to pay significant dollars, no special deal for problems just the standard car deal. I also was also told by Toyota, there would be no assistance by them. The process has begun for me, I have replaced my wife's 2013 RAV4 last month with a different manufacture after comparison with other similar 2017's. We will see what happens, Best wishes!

That pretty much sums op the POS Tacoma Toyota has put out.

Most people like the truck but hate the engine/transmission combo...

And unfortunately I don't think Toyota is going to do anything substantial about it other than say "Sorry guys, our bad"

Flaring is when the motor revs up in RPMs in the period of time between the disengagement of the last gear and the engagement of the next gear. This should never happen.

Seems about right, though a good working, correctly geared, transmission, and shutting up some of the noise of this engine, should work.
